Job Description Job Title: Histology Technician
Shift: Night 5x8-Hour (11 PM - 7:30 AM) with holiday rotation
Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated Histology Technician to join our histology laboratory team. The successful candidate will perform routine and complex histologic procedures, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and applying both routine and special stains, as well as immunohistochemistry. This role requires proficiency in quality control measures on completed slides and the ability to identify potential problems affecting diagnoses and results.
Key Responsibilities: - Perform histologic procedures including processing, embedding (40 blocks/hour), microtomy (30 blocks/hour), and staining techniques. - Conduct quality control checks on completed slides and identify any issues that may impact diagnosis. - Accurately record observations and document maintenance of lab instruments and equipment. - Ensure compliance with established laboratory policies and procedures. - Participate in occasional weekend coverage and be part of the on-call rotation, which occurs once every two months.
Qualifications: - 3-5 years of full-time experience in a histology lab. - Proficiency in Immunohistochemistry (IHC). - Certifications required: BLS, HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification. - A Bachelor's degree in histotechnology, biology, or a related scientific discipline is preferred. - Familiarity with quality control methods for IHC and special stains. - Must reside within a 60-mile radius; locals may be considered on a case-by-case basis at a reduced contract rate.
Working Conditions: - This position is located on the Charleston campus, with no floating required. - Guarantee of hours may vary; management allows the facility to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks. - All requested time off must be submitted at the time of application; any requests after submission will not be accommodated.
