Closing Date: 09/12/2025 TITLE: Technology Support Specialist CLASSIFICATION: MESPA REPORTS TO: Director Technology and Communications LOCATION: Blue Center FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY: The Technology Support Specialist is responsible for assisting with the implementation, support, repair, and maintenance of all technology within the Muhlenberg School District. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include providing comprehensive technical assistance to staff and students, ensuring the smooth operation of network and server systems, managing the deployment and upkeep of various devices, software, and critical infrastructure, and offering specialized technical and creative support for communications and digital media initiatives
Network and Systems Support and Maintenance:
Assist with the management of network accounts, including Active Directory, Google Workspace, Chrome OS, iOS, and other relevant platforms. Maintain accurate user account records and equipment assignments, ensuring proper access and security within the network. Diagnose and troubleshoot client/server software and networking issues. Monitor network performance and ensure network availability and reliability. Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls. Configure and maintain network hardware such as routers, switches, and access points. Perform and document regular network infrastructure audits. Assist with the planning and implementation of network infrastructure projects. Troubleshoot complex network connectivity issues and collaborate with service providers as needed. Administer and maintain server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux) Perform regular system backups and ensure data recovery capabilities. Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies across various systems. Monitor server performance, logs, and security events. Install, configure, and update server-based applications and services. Implement and maintain virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) if applicable. Troubleshoot server hardware and software issues. Ensure system security through patching, antivirus management, and access controls. Software Support and Maintenance:
Diagnose and troubleshoot software malfunctions. Test software compatibility for both new and existing systems. Provide technical support to staff and students regarding all district-approved technology. Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment to ensure optimal software performance. Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing Chromebooks, iPads and other district devices. Device Deployment and Hardware Support:
Coordinate the efficient distribution and setup of new hardware throughout the district. Install, configure, and maintain a wide range of classroom technologies and administrative computers. Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware malfunctions. Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment. Maintain a detailed inventory of all computer equipment and peripherals, keeping track of every device. Assist with the safe removal and disposal of obsolete equipment according to district policies.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS Education: Two-year technical school degree preferred. Experience: Minimum three years of experience in a technology support role, preferably in an educational environment. Skills: Excellent customer service and organizational skill Excellent problem-solving skills with client/server software, PCs, and networking Ability to work efficiently with and provide appropriate training for employees of all classifications Strong communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing student Chromebooks, iPads and other district devices Knowledge of Google Workspace and Windows Server (AD) operating systems Knowledge of Microsoft-based, ChromeOS, and Apple products. Familiarity with network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.). Experience with server administration (Windows Server preferred). Understanding of virtualization concepts and technologies. Knowledge of data backup and recovery procedures. Familiarity with system monitoring tools.
Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code). Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code). Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994. Submission of the FBI Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006 Submission of sexual misconduct/abuse disclosure release form in accordance with Act 168 of 2014. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Able to walk and move around the school building frequently, including walking long distances, climbing stairs and standing for extended periods of time. Able to raise or lower objects from one level to another. Able to carry objects (up to 60 lbs.) in arms or by other appropriate means. Able to use hands and arms to reach and pick up objects. Able to travel inside or outside the District as necessary for work related tasks. SENSORY ABILITIES:
