Position Purpose:

As the AV Integration & Support Specialist, this position serves as the college's technical expert on the use and support of AV technologies, college wide. This Tier II position supports the college's instructional and collaborative environments by installing, configuring, and maintaining audiovisual (AV) systems across classrooms and conference spaces. This role ensures that AV technology is reliable, user-friendly, and aligned with performance standards to enhance the teaching and learning experience for faculty, staff, and students.

Working under the guidance of the IT Operations Manager, this position produces and contributes to AV system design, assists with project coordination, and provides second-level support for escalated AV issues. Responsibilities include commissioning AV systems, troubleshooting complex failures, and supporting digital signage, lecture capture, and streaming platforms. The role also offers mentorship to Tier I technicians and helps maintain documentation and training materials for end users and technical staff.

The AV Integration & Support Specialist plays a key role in AV-related construction and renovation projects, offering input on system specifications, vendor coordination, and implementation timelines. The position supports AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron), audio reinforcement, and video switching technologies, and may assist with programming and interface customization.

This role collaborates with staff, faculty, and external vendors to ensure AV systems meet instructional needs and industry standards. It also contributes to strategic planning by researching emerging technologies and recommending improvements. Physical installation tasks may require lifting equipment and using ladders or tools in accordance with safety guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Install, configure, and commission AV systems in classrooms and conference rooms, ensuring readiness for instructional use with minimal disruption. Interpret AV schematics and technical drawings to guide accurate installations and upgrades. Perform preventative maintenance and system checks to ensure AV systems are operational and reliable. Coordinate with vendors and contractors for timely, standards-compliant installations and repairs. Ensure AV systems meet safety codes, ADA compliance, and AVIXA industry standards. Maintain AV hardware/software inventory and manage lifecycle upgrades. Advocate for end-users by identifying pain points and implementing usability improvements. Provide Tier II support for AV-related issues, including real-time instructional support and root-cause analysis. Support faculty, staff, and students in effective AV system use, including training and documentation. Create and maintain internal and external documentation, including KB articles and support guides. Mentor Tier I technicians through hands-on training and feedback. Assist with relocation and setup of AV and computing equipment across campus. Perform helpdesk tasks such as account resets, software installations, and hardware maintenance. Support internal and external events at various campus locations and times. Monitor AV system performance and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with IT security policies and VCCS standards, and state/federal regulations. Collaborate with college and VCCS leadership to align AV practices with institutional goals. Engage with peer institutions to share best practices and promote consistent AV standards. KSA's/Required Qualifications

Ability to deliver high-quality, user-focused technical support in instructional and collaborative environments. Strong understanding of AV system installation, configuration, and commissioning. Experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications. Ability to assist in AV system design and contribute to RFPs and vendor selection. Support and maintenance of digital signage, lecture capture, and streaming systems. Proficiency in troubleshooting complex AV system failures. Familiarity with AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron), video switching, and audio reinforcement. Experience supporting, configuring, and/or maintaining AV control systems, including interface customization. Working knowledge of Windows 10/11, macOS, and iOS for AV-related software and hardware support. Intermediate networking knowledge (LAN, WAN, wireless) for AV and endpoint support. Ability to evaluate equipment failures and coordinate warranty/vendor repairs. Strong documentation skills for technical guides and user-facing materials. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Analytical and diagnostic skills for identifying root causes of technical issues. Proven ability to mentor Tier I technicians and foster professional development. Strong organizational and time management skills. Commitment to continuous learning and strategic planning. Demonstrated experience providing high-quality customer service in a technical support environment. Experience supporting Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or other video conferencing platforms. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and safely use ladders and tools. Additional Considerations

Additional education Information Technology or related field. Experience managing AV project timelines and deliverables. Ability to manage AV projects from planning through implementation. Advanced knowledge of safety codes, ADA compliance, and AV industry standards (AVIXA, InfoComm) that apply to AV integrations. Experience developing and delivering AV training sessions. Valid driver's license for use of state vehicles. CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent. Experience with DSP systems such as Biamp or QSC. Certifications such as CTS, ITIL, or AVIXA credentials. Familiarity with academic environments and the needs of faculty, staff, and students. Experience working in a help desk environment with advanced end-user support. Crestron programming experience or certification (e.g., DMC-E-4K). Experience supporting AV systems in a higher education setting.
