Location: Plainfield, NJ 07060
Compensation: $55/hour

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and certified Music Teacher to join an innovative K-8 school team in Plainfield, NJ. The ideal candidate is an educator with a strong musical background, a passion for student development, and the creativity to build a robust, inclusive music program. This position requires someone who can foster musical excellence, promote joy in learning, and collaborate closely with colleagues across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement a comprehensive music curriculum aligned with academic standards and student IEP goals when applicable.
  • Deliver engaging instruction in general music and potentially lead chorus or ensembles, with an emphasis on vocal development.
  • Use music education frameworks such as Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, and/or Gordon to support student learning.
  • Accompany student performances and instruction using piano and/or guitar as needed.
  • Create inclusive performance opportunities for all students, including school-wide concerts and showcases.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to promote interdisciplinary learning.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Support a classroom culture of respect, creativity, and high expectations.
  • Supervise lunch and recess, and participate in school-wide events and family engagement initiatives.
  • Actively participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative school culture.
  • Demonstrate resilience, professionalism, and a commitment to the school's mission.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Music or Music Education (Master's preferred).
  • Holds a valid New Jersey teaching certificate in Music Education or is eligible for a CE or CEAS in music.
  • At least 2 years of full-time classroom experience is preferred.
  • Experience in charter schools or urban educational settings is a plus.
  • Strong background in choral instruction, ensemble direction, and music performance.
  • Familiarity with diverse pedagogical methods in music education.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with students and build joyful learning environments.
  • Proficiency in accompaniment (especially piano and/or guitar) is strongly preferred.
  • Mission-aligned, collaborative, and committed to equitable access to high-quality education.
Work Conditions:
  • May involve extended standing, classroom movement, lifting, or occasional travel between campuses.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures and indoor/outdoor school settings.
  • Final candidates must pass a criminal background check and submit TB/Mantoux medical clearance.
