Position Summary

The Director of Transportation responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing the operations and fiscal activities of the division, planning and developing systems and procedures to improve the operational and efficiency of the division, supervise staff and drivers in accordance with company policies and procedures, and the hiring and training of new staff/drivers.

Primary Responsibilities: Oversee all transportation operations and logistics planning. Manage and build carrier and customer relationships. Ensure DOT, OSHA, FMCSA and company policy compliance. Monitor transportation KPIs and drive performance improvements. Develop cost-effective transportation strategies. Lead routing, dispatch, brokerage and optimization efforts. Collaborate with warehouse, customer service, and leadership teams. Manage transportation budgets and cost controls. Lead and develop transportation staff, recommend new hires, promotions, termination and transfers for the purpose of maintaining staffing needs and productivity. Assist staff in resolving complex or out of policy operational problems. Manages incidents/complaints (safety issues, transportation routes, legal issues, department etc.) Ensure all Safety and Maintenance practices and policies are followed, track company equipment. Respond to emergencies during & after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. Perform other duties as assigned. Business Development & Strategic Growth:

Identify new business opportunities to expand transportation services and increase revenue. Build and maintain relationships with current and potential clients, vendors, and strategic partners. Collaborate with the executive team to develop proposals, bids, and pricing models for new contracts. Represent the transportation department in industry events, networking opportunities, and business development meetings. Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to inform strategic decision-making. Lead efforts to expand service areas, acquire new contracts, or diversify fleet capabilities in line with organizational goals. Budgeting & Cost Control:

Develop and manage department budgets, including fuel, maintenance, and staffing. Analyze and report on key metrics such as fuel efficiency, route optimization, and labor costs. Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities. Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Above average communication skills - orally and in written format Basic computer skills in the utilization of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel Background in the transportation industry. Previous experience is needed. Public Safety and Security- knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, and/or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. The ability to provide administrative and professional leadership and direction to a department. Ability to problem solve - analyze issues and develop project plans. Flexibility is required to work with a variety of circumstances, individuals, etc. Physical Demands:
