Position Summary:

The Disability Resource Center collaborates with the University in its commitment to recognize disability as a valued aspect of diversity and to embrace access to the University of Northern Colorado community as a matter of equity and inclusion. The office provides the University with resources, education, and direct services to design a more welcoming and inclusive environment. The Disability Resource Center values a positive student-centered approach to academic accommodation characterized by self-advocacy, equity, student learning and universal design of instruction.

The Access Coordinator assists the Disability Resource Center in implementing appropriate and effective academic accommodations within the framework of the legal mandates of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Services are offered to provide students with disabilities the opportunity to effectively participate in the academic and social environment of the University. To ensure equal access, the Access Coordinator acts as an advocate for students with disabilities. In the academic year 2020-2021, DRC provided accommodations and services for over 800 active students and many prospective students and their parents.

The Access Coordinator assists, as needed, in providing consultation with faculty and campus staff regarding academic accommodations, compliance with legal responsibilities, as well as instructional, programmatic, physical, and curricular accommodations. UNC partners work collaboratively with DRC to ensure equitable access and to assist in the University's commitment to compliance with federal regulations.

Information regarding disability related issues is disseminated through disability awareness training, presentations, brochures, and the website. The Access Coordinator assists in providing disability representation on relevant campus committees as approved by the Senior Access Coordinator and Director. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Access Coordinator and Director.

Job Duties:

A. Direct Student Support (65%)

This position is responsible for providing direct support and advocacy to students and assisting in the review of disability documentation for determination of appropriate accommodation and services to college students with disabilities. Documentation review may include interpreting medical, psychological, and psychiatric evaluations. Responsibilities include ensuring University compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act through the implementation of appropriate and effective accommodation.

B. Office Administration (20%) Oversee the daily operations of the Disability Resource Center office under the direction of the Director and Senior Access Coordinator to ensure adherence to appropriate policies, procedures, and legal guidelines while providing a welcoming and supportive environment for students and guests within the office. Duties include developing and revising policies and procedures and monitoring office procedures to ensure conscientious use of budget resources and expenditures.

C. Professional Development (10%)

This position works collaboratively with faculty and staff on issues of accommodation and compliance. Responsibility includes appointments to various campus committees and attending campus seminars and workshops, or professional conferences when funding permits for continued professional development. Professional development also includes review of articles, journals, and recent trends on disability issues to stay current in the field of postsecondary education for students with disabilities.

D. Program Coordination (5%) This position will assist in the coordination and participation in DRC program events and UNC campus events throughout the academic year to provide disability awareness and dissemination of program information. These may include resource fairs, workshops, training sessions, open houses, panel discussions, etc. Position will research new disability trends, legal updates, recommend relevant purchases and assist in the development of training procedures for students and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Special Education, RehabilitationCounseling, Professional Psychology, Higher Education Student Affairs Leadership,or another related field.

• Three years' experience in a post-secondary setting workingwith students with disabilities and other high-risk student s in a highereducational setting.

• The individual must have a thorough working knowledge ofthe Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the RehabilitationAct.

• Experience in reviewing or evaluating medical andpsychological evaluations.

Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, HumanServices, Disability Services, Psychology, or other appropriate field of study. • Experience working with people with disabilities.

• Excellent verbal and communication skills.

• Knowledge and experience working with persons of diverse backgrounds.

• Minimum experience of one year working with people with disabilities. • The individual must have knowledge of or the ability toquickly learn the legal standards of the Americans with Disabilities Actand Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. • Experience in reviewing medical and psychological evaluations beneficial.

2. Experience:

Two(2) years experience in an educational setting working with students with disabilities or similar environment.

The individual must have a working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills required. Demonstrated communication skills.
