We are partnering with a well-established and rapidly growing organization in the construction industry to identify a skilled
Controller . This individual will oversee all financial operations, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and provide strategic insights to support the company's continued growth. With responsibility for financial management, project accounting, and operational efficiency, this role is critical to aligning financial strategy with overall business objectives.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Direct all daily accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, job costing, and reconciliations. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules and job profitability reporting. Monitor, forecast, and manage cash flow to support financial stability. Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the annual budgeting process and deliver timely budget vs. actual variance analysis. Partner with project managers and leadership to ensure financial goals align with operational performance. Internal Controls & Compliance
Establish and maintain internal controls to protect company assets. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations. Manage external audits, insurance renewals, and bonding requirements. Systems & Process Improvement
Maintain and optimize accounting and financial systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300, or similar). Drive process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and reporting capabilities. Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor and lead the accounting team. Partner with executives, operations, and project managers to support decision-making and drive growth initiatives. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred). 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior finance leadership role. Direct construction industry experience (general contractor, subcontractor, or specialty trade). Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, and construction project accounting. Proficiency with construction-focused accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Procore, or QuickBooks). Demonstrated leadership and team management skills. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication abilities. Desired Traits
