General Statement of Duties

This vacancy is open until filled. The employee in this classification is responsible for planning school bus routes and assigning over forty thousand students to buses utilizing the Department computerized routing system.

Essential Duties

Analyzes geospatial data pertaining to vehicle capacity, timing, road systems, and safety concerns to develop school bus routes and schedules using the Department's computerized routing system. Creates and maintains geospatial layers related to bus routes and student assignments, ensuring data accuracy and consistency. Provides technical support for the Department's routing system, assisting staff with GIS-enabled applications and software Assigns general education and/or exceptional education students to bus routes, including new students, and assignments when students have changes in school enrollment or address/daycare locations. Performs spatial analyses to solve issues such as overcrowding on buses or balancing loads to meet bell schedules. Evaluates bus stop locations using GIS tools and Google Maps, conducting on-site assessments for safety and efficiency. Assists with special projects involving changes in bell schedules and school attendance boundaries, utilizing GIS data and tools. Prepares and maintains documentation related to bus routes, geospatial data, and technical processes. Trains zone staff on the use of Edulog system and applications related to student transportation. Maintains a current working knowledge of GIS systems and applications as well as related hardware, software, and peripherals used by the Department. Implement GIS-based solutions to address challenges, such as accommodating McKinney-Vento or out-of-zone students. Effectively communicates with schools and other outside agencies on issues related to student transportation Reviews bus stop review requests and processes approved or denied requests appropriately Assists with the preparation and distribution of route information to Department staff, bus drivers and stakeholders. Assists with special projects to analyze changes in bell schedules and school zone attendance boundaries Prepares ridership reports as necessary Performs related work as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; Considerable knowledge of pupil transportation operations and routing processes; must possess a working knowledge of School Board policies, Federal/State/Local laws and regulations pertaining to transportation of students; must have excellent computer skills utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365 email, Google Docs; must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have the ability to work well independently; must have excellent customer service skills. Satisfactory completion of the Edulog training curriculum.

Additional Information

This position is a 260 day (12 month) position located at Henrico County Public Schools' Central Office. The minimum salary for this position is $49,521.91 or based on the internal promotion policy. (Note: The salary will be prorated based on the official start date).
