Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Junior Visual Designer supports the creation and execution of visual materials that advance the University's brand, marketing, and communications. This position is a part of and works closely with the Creative Services team to produce high-quality print and digital designs for campus departments, academic units, student organizations, events, and external audiences. The Junior Visual Designer supports senior design staff and the Director of Creative Services, assisting with layout, design, graphics production, and brand compliance. This role is ideal for a creative individual with a design background or education, who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and passionate about Fairmont State University.
Duties and Responsibilities: Design & Production Support Assist in the development of graphics, layouts, and visual assets for print, digital, social media, and web. Prepare and adapt existing designs for multiple platforms and formats. Maintain consistent use of institutional branding, colors, and typography across all projects. Support the production of marketing materials, event collateral, and promotional items. Prepare final print files for both on-campus production and off-campus vendors. Collaboration & Client Service
Work with faculty, staff, campus departments, and student organizations to support design needs. Participate in project meetings to gather requirements, create creative briefs, and contribute creative input. Provide draft designs for feedback and make revisions in a timely manner. Deliver print-ready and media-ready files:Prepare, preflight, and package final artwork files for release to print vendors. This includes ensuring proper bleeds, crop marks, and color modes. Create social media graphics, digital ads, and web visuals aligned with brand guidelines. Support event promotion with posters, flyers, banners, and digital signage. Present concept options and gather/organize feedback and approvals. Ensure deliverables meet accessibility best practices (alt text, contrast, caption-ready assets). Workflow & Project Management
Track assigned projects and meet deadlines under the supervision of senior designers or the Brand Manager. Organize and maintain digital design files for easy access and version control. Communicate project updates and progress with team members and supervisors. Correspond with clients ensuring smooth execution of design projects from concept to delivery. Assist with monitoring student workers and their projects. Maintain adherence to university brand standards and templates. Log tasks/status in Microsoft Planner (or assigned tool); update due dates and dependencies. Apply consistent file-naming conventions and folder structures; archive final packages. Preflight/proof all files and run checklists before release. Help maintain shared asset libraries (logos, fonts, graphic elements, templates). Professional Growth & Development
Stay current on design trends, software updates, and industry best practices. Take advantage of training opportunities and feedback to strengthen design skills. Demonstrate initiative by suggesting creative approaches or fresh visual ideas. Assist with research and troubleshooting for Creative Services Other Duties
Other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or related field; or an associate's in graphics technology and a minimum of three years of fulltime graphic/digital design and multimedia work experience.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Software: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop; familiarity with Canva and Microsoft Office. Basic understanding of typography, color theory, and layout principles. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications
Experience creating designs for both print and digital platforms (e.g., flyers, brochures, social media graphics, web banners). Technical: Understanding of CMYK/RGB, DPI, print specs, bleeds/crops, packaging final files; basic HTML/CSS or CMS experience a plus. Experience working in a university, agency, or in-house creative environment. Knowledge of accessibility standards in design.
