Overview
LHH is teaming up with an independent educational institution in Oakland, CA in search of an HR Manager to support the full scope of human resources operations across a diverse and intellectually driven community. The HR Manager will be the sole HR professional on-site, working closely with leadership and the business office to ensure compliance, streamline systems, and support a talented team of educators and staff. The ideal candidate is a master-level HR generalist with strong California employment law knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive mindset. Experience in education or nonprofit settings is highly preferred. Base pay range
$100,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies.
- Maintain and optimize HRIS systems and employee records.
- Administer benefits, compensation updates, and leave management.
- Support recruitment and onboarding processes using Applicant Pro and other platforms.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee relations and performance management.
- Collaborate with leadership on training programs and compliance tracking.
- Prepare HR reports and participate in special projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (required).
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including generalist and payroll processing.
- Strong preference for candidates with independent school or nonprofit experience.
- Proficiency in ADP, EASE, Applicant Pro, Google Suite, and HRIS systems.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
- Deep understanding of CA employment law and HR compliance.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
