(BPS). Reports to: Director of Finance and Operations. The Boston Public Schools (BPS), Massachusetts' largest school district, serves roughly 52,000 students with a $1.2 billion budget. Within BPS, Facilities Management is a major department, managing an annual budget of approximately $90 million (about 10% of total spending). Our team is responsible for the daily cleaning and maintenance of roughly 125 schools, covering 10 million square feet and serving 30,000 students across Boston. We also play a key role in the long-term facilities plan, a component of the Mayor's initiative for district-wide capital upgrades. This role drives departmental improvements in efficacy, productivity, and efficiency by developing and implementing data-driven strategies. The successful candidate will provide essential analytical support across various daily tasks, including: Creating a departmental inventory system Analyzing department-specific trends Conducting ongoing evaluations of key performance indicators (KPIs) BPS seeks a candidate who combines deep analytical expertise with strong strategic planning abilities, capable of envisioning broad strategic plans and executing them through detailed, accurate operational and financial analysis. A key part of this role involves inventing new metrics and applying innovative approaches to generate fresh insights and solve complex operational challenges for BPS Facilities and the district. Responsibilities
Management of the computerized maintenance system (CMMS) Asset Essentials, optimizing maintenance workflows and system efficiency. Maintain and monitor data from the Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA). Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and departments to achieve common goals and ensure smooth operations. Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics across all BPS Operations departments to drive improvements. Develop new analytical tools (analyses, databases, frameworks) independently to support decision-making. Monitor and analyze the BPS Facilities Inventory system. Evaluate departmental productivity and efficiency through internal data analysis, external research, and benchmarking. Lead self-directed projects to develop and implement new operational strategies, protocols, and tools based on data insights and field observations. Train department staff on new system implementations. Qualifications – Required
Bachelor’s degree required. At least three years of data analysis experience required. Experience leading an organization’s data analytics function and/or directing high-impact analysis projects with implications for strategy and decision-making. Experience with a wide range of analytical tasks, including project evaluations; developing and tracking KPIs; designing and measuring productivity and efficiency metrics. Experience developing new strategies and/or practices, and then building implementation plans to promote successful execution. Familiarity with the operations of complex, multi-dimensional organizations is required; familiarity with urban school districts is strongly preferred. Current authorization to work in the United States — candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Qualifications – Preferred
Master’s degree in a related field or course of study preferred—experience working in an educational or other public service setting. Skills
Expert analytical skills, mastering Python, R, SQL, and either Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Proven ability to develop and manage self-directed data evaluation projects and to frame recommendations based on data to support organizational decision-making. Acute problem-solving skills, with a talent for assessing organizational challenges and resolving them with innovative data- or research-driven strategies. Strong communications and reporting skills, with the ability to distill sophisticated analysis into clear and actionable insights and recommendations. Ability to work cross-functionally across multiple teams and projects while meeting timelines. Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments and engage effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Terms

8 am – 4 pm, steady with peak periods; limited evening and weekend responsibilities driven by the role’s deliverable schedule.
