The Grants Manager is an experienced fundraising professional focused on corporate and foundation prospects and funders with strong writing and research skills. This individual will work in collaboration with Heading Home’s development and program teams to develop an understanding of our programs, its impact, and the successes of our clients. The individual in this role will research opportunities and will use NXT to manage a pipeline of corporate and foundation funders and prospects based on organizational funding priorities. The Grants Manager will collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and Director of Major Gifts to own and cultivate the relationships necessary to secure funding and achieve our goals. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in grants management and external relationship-building, in partnership with a collaborative Development team.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Strategy and Development
Research and identify new grant opportunities aligned with the organization's mission and programs.
Develop and maintain an annual grants calendar with deadlines for proposals, reports, and renewals.
Collaborate with program staff to gather information needed for proposals and reports.
Write compelling, customized grant proposals and LOIs (letters of inquiry) to prospective funders.
Grant Management and Compliance
Track the status of submitted proposals and manage post-award processes.
Ensure all grant requirements are met, including timely reporting, documentation, and outcome tracking.
Maintain accurate records in the grants database or CRM, including deadlines, deliverables, and correspondence.
Monitor grant expenditures and assist with budget development and reconciliation in collaboration with finance staff.
Funder Stewardship and Communication
Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective funders.
Coordinate site visits, funder meetings, and other stewardship activities.
Prepare progress reports, success stories, and other materials for funder communication.
Internal Collaboration and Support
Work cross-functionally with development, finance, and program teams to align funding with program needs.
Support fundraising events, campaigns, or donor communications as needed.
Experience and Skills Required Heading Home is seeking a development professional who has the experience, ambition, and mission alignment needed to drive the corporate and foundation grants strategy for the Development team, including the following:
Commitment to Heading Home’s mission
Minimum 3–5 years of grant writing and management experience, preferably in a human services or homelessness-related nonprofit
Proven success in securing funding from foundations and corporations
Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.
Highly organized and able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and grant tracking databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge NXT, Salesforce, Foundant, GrantHub).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organization and time management skills
Must be able to exercise sound judgment and confidentiality
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, take initiative, and be a self-starter
