Overview The Marketing and Sales Manager develops and executes comprehensive marketing strategies to drive ticket sales, increase audience engagement, and build brand awareness for all MOXIE Theatre productions and events. This is the sole marketing position within the organization, requiring an independent, self-motivated professional who can manage all aspects of marketing and sales. This role combines creative marketing with data-driven sales approaches to maximize revenue and expand the theatre’s reach within the community while supporting our mission of amplifying women+’s voices in theatre.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about both marketing strategy and live performance who wants to make a meaningful impact on gender equity in the arts with the flexibility of hybrid work. Key Responsibilities
Independently develop and implement integrated marketing campaigns for each production, including digital marketing, print advertising, social media, and community outreach
Manage the theatre’s website, social media platforms, email marketing campaigns, and online presence as the sole marketing team member
Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets and manage press releases, media kits, and review coordination
Work closely with Director of Operations and Audience Engagement to coordinate special events, opening night celebrations, and donor appreciation events
Work with Executive Artistic Director to develop sales strategy
Oversee all box office operations and train volunteers/staff on sales techniques and customer service excellence
Develop and manage group sales programs for schools, corporate clients, and community organizations
Create and implement dynamic pricing strategies to optimize revenue across different productions
Analyze sales data and audience demographics to identify trends and opportunities for growth
Manage subscription and ticket programs, including renewal campaigns and new subscriber acquisition
Budget & Analytics
Independently manage marketing and advertising budgets, tracking ROI on all marketing investments
Prepare regular reports on sales performance, marketing effectiveness, and audience metrics for Executive Artistic Director
Conduct post-production analysis to evaluate campaign success and inform future strategies
Generate box office reports to send to licensing companies
Monitor competitor activities and industry trends to stay current with best practices
Audience Development
Research and identify target audiences for different productions and develop tailored marketing approaches
Create and maintain customer databases and implement CRM strategies to improve patron retention
Develop partnerships with local businesses, schools, and community organizations to expand audience reach
Requirements Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Theatre Arts, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
2-3 years of experience in marketing and sales, preferably in arts, entertainment, or nonprofit sectors (preferred)
Knowledge of the performing arts industry and appreciation for live theatre
Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency in digital marketing tools, CRM systems, and analytics platforms
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with social media management, email marketing platforms, and website content management
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously as the sole marketing team member
Passion for the arts and commitment to supporting MOXIE’s mission
Commitment to gender equity and social justice in the arts
Ability to work evenings and weekends during show runs and special events
Working Conditions
Full-time hybrid position (30-40 hours per week)
Evening and weekend work required during show runs and special events
Hybrid work schedule available, with both on-site and remote work expected.
Office located in the College Area of San Diego near SDSU
