Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 4 - Area Training Officer (PCN 10-9786) in Soldotna, Alaska. Currently offering a 30% mission-critical incentive pay bonus. What You Will Be Doing

As a firefighter, this position provides protection from wildland fires that threaten life and property in the wildland/urban interface by: Ensuring daily fire readiness for engines, helicopters, and personal gear. Performing as an Initial Attack Incident Commander on initial, extended attack fires, and complex incidents. Ensuring all personnel responding to incidents follow the 10 Standard Firefighting Orders and 18 Watch Out Situations. Establishing unified command with cooperators, entering private property, ordering evacuations and/or closing roads/access to ensure life safety. Providing information on incidents, including acreage, current fire behavior, fuels, weather, location, values at risk, and anticipated fire activity as related to fire tactics and strategies. Providing for the safety of personnel and the accountability of equipment. As an Area Training Officer, this position provides oversight of the area/regional training program by: Collecting and documenting training and experience records, fire performance evaluations, and completed task books from area employees, EFF, and local cooperators. Using the DOF Task Book Authorities and Qualification Level Access (QLA) document as a guide, entering data and attaching records into IQS for positions certified by the local Fire Management Officer (FMO). Maintaining training-related support files for area employees, emergency firefighters, and local cooperators, and entering into IQS using IQS Data Entry Standards and naming conventions. Consolidating and prioritizing area nominations for training courses following established national, agency, and program policies and procedures. Completing annual “Training Needs” documents for the coming year for area employees, emergency firefighters, and local cooperators by the date set by the Statewide Training office. This position is based at the Soldotna Area Office, Kenai-Kodiak Area Office, 42499 Sterling Hwy, Soldotna, AK. Duties involve outdoor work in all terrain and weather, long hours, and possible extended deployments. Physical requirements include carrying up to 45 pounds, running, bending, twisting, walking, and climbing. A Work Capacity Test at the Arduous level is required for firefighter positions. Twelve months of wildland firefighting or forestry field experience at the journey level. The journey-level experience is met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 3 or equivalent. Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System is required. Substitution

Up to six months of work experience may be substituted with completed coursework in forestry, fire science, or related fields (course credits must be documented and translated to months as specified). There is no substitution for the Red Card qualifications. Special Notes

Applicants must be at least eighteen years old. Most positions require National Incident Qualification System certifications. Specialized areas include fire operations, wildland fire prevention, and aviation support. The Work Capacity Test at the Arduous level must be passed. A valid Alaska driver’s license is required or conditional offers may be made pending license acquisition. Travel and extended deployments may be required. Some positions may require a commercial driver’s license with endorsements. Required Information

Qualification as Incident Commander Type 4 (ICT4) and as any single resource boss is required. Red Card or Master Record must be current at the time of application.
