The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Martha’s Village and Kitchen (MVK) serves as the top executive leader and strategic visionary of the organization, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The CEO is responsible for ensuring the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals are achieved through effective leadership, operational oversight, and community engagement. In collaboration with the Board and Executive Leadership Team, the CEO guides the strategic direction of the organization, stewards donor and community relationships, and ensures long-term sustainability and measurable impact. The CEO is also responsible for establishing and fostering a workplace culture that empowers management and staff to perform their roles effectively while feeling supported, valued, and aligned with the organization’s mission. As the primary spokesperson and public face of Martha’s Village and Kitchen, the CEO promotes the agency’s services, programs, and impact to the broader community. This includes representing MVK at public events, engaging with media, cultivating strategic partnerships, and ensuring the agency’s presence and reputation reflect the highest standards of professionalism and mission alignment. The CEO plays a critical role in increasing visibility, strengthening stakeholder trust, and enhancing the organization’s influence as a leading provider of services for individuals and families experiencing poverty and homelessness. Required Knowledge, and Abilities

Deep understanding of nonprofit governance, operations, and best practices. Knowledge of social services, homelessness, poverty alleviation, and related public policy issues. Familiarity with the regulatory and compliance environment affecting nonprofit organizations. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including donors, government agencies, foundations, and community partners. Understanding of the Coachella Valley region and its unique needs and opportunities, or ability to quickly develop that knowledge. Responsibilities

Executive Leadership & Strategy: Provide dynamic leadership and strategic vision for Martha’s Village and Kitchen in alignment with its mission and values. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and monitor long-term goals and strategic initiatives. Guide the Executive Leadership Team and ensure alignment across departments. Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson and ambassador in the community and public sector. Organizational Management

Oversee daily operations through close collaboration with senior leadership. Promote a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability across all levels of the organization. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as internal policies and standards. Lead risk management and ensure organizational resilience and operational continuity. Fund Development & External Relations

Cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Actively participate in fundraising activities including major gift solicitation, events, and campaigns. Maintain and elevate the organization’s visibility and reputation in the community. Represent MVK at public events, community meetings, and with media and civic organizations. Fiscal Oversight

Collaborate with the Finance team to develop and manage the annual operating budget. Monitor financial performance and ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability. Provide accurate, timely financial and operational reports to the Board of Directors. Board Engagement

Serve as a liaison between the Board and the organization’s operations. Keep the Board informed on organizational performance, strategic progress, and emerging challenges. Support the recruitment, orientation, and ongoing development of Board members. Partner with the Board on governance best practices and long-term planning. Community Impact & Program Oversight

Ensure program design, delivery, and evaluation are evidence-based and responsive to client needs. Foster partnerships and collaborations that enhance service delivery and broaden organizational impact. Promote advocacy efforts aligned with MVK’s mission and priorities. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, public administration, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or social services organization. Demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning and organizational development efforts. Strong understanding of fundraising, donor relations, and nonprofit financial management. Skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, influence, and build trust with diverse stakeholders. Commitment to and understanding of the mission, values, and CREED of Martha’s Village & Kitchen, demonstrating integrity, compassion, and service. Collaborative leadership style with the ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven work culture. Sound financial understanding with experience managing organizational budgets and working with varied funding sources.
