This position provides crisis intervention, resource allocation, and family support to families served by NCMEC, including cases referred by local and federal law enforcement. The role collaborates with other team members within the Family Advocacy Division to address concerns from caregivers, law enforcement, and/or children regarding missing and exploited children, and supports recovery and reunification efforts. The role may provide routine clearinghouse assistance to social workers, mental health providers, school personnel, and law enforcement in the above-mentioned areas.

Hours and schedule:

Basic hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (37.5 hours per week); some evenings and weekend hours may be required. On-call availability and after-hours/weekend response may be required.

Reports to:

Supervisor, Family Advocacy Division

Responsibilities

Assess the needs of the family and child, provide mental health and therapeutic interventions to caregivers who have a missing child, have recovered a missing child, have been reunited with a missing child, or have a child who has been sexually exploited.

Provide routine clearinghouse assistance (RCA) to the multiple helping professions involved in a missing or sexually exploited child case.

Provide support to caregivers and children who contact NCMEC with reports and concerns about their case and safety.

Research and liaise with appropriate victim service agencies, mental health providers, or crime victim resources to serve the needs of NCMEC families.

Ensure data is accurate and updated, and resources are ready to serve families in need.

Promote and exhibit loyalty to NCMEC and the cause of protecting children worldwide; maintain a professional image.

Communicate with co-workers, management, law enforcement officials, service providers, survivors, and others courteously and professionally.

Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, Counseling, or a related field focused on advocacy and mental health intervention and prevention. At least 2 years of casework experience in the child and victim services field. Experience with trauma, healing, and resiliency interventions for children and adults. Counseling or victim advocacy experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work on a team to build relationships with families and service providers aligned with NCMEC’s mission. Ability to work with individuals in crisis; capability to handle difficult or disturbing case situations with knowledge of self-care strategies. Ability to research, locate, and secure appropriate resources for families/children. Adaptability and flexibility to work as part of a team or independently. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond to critical/urgent cases as part of a team. Critical thinking to review procedures and develop new work processes. Ability to focus, adapt, and complete duties in an ever-changing environment. Documentation of all service contacts promptly, including collateral and networking contacts, and up-to-date case notes. Knowledge of trauma-focused support, healing, and resiliency in crime victim populations. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Proficiency with online systems including spreadsheets and databases; familiarity with social media and apps used by children to stay connected with peers. Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information. Additional language proficiency is a plus; bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
