VP, Global Commercial Product Strategy, Oncology TA Lead Role Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Global Commercial Product Strategy and Operations (GCSO), this individual creates the long-term and integrated commercial vision of the Oncology therapeutic area. This position represents the therapeutic area from a commercialization perspective to provide insight and input throughout the drug development process including clinical trial design, clinical endpoints, lifecycle management, and portfolio prioritization. The therapeutic area lead ensures the key commercialization strategic issues for all brands and assets are identified and acted upon. They will lead a team of ~20 responsible for the global commercialization of the oncology portfolio consisting of multiple late-stage assets, early internal pipeline assets, and an external opt in pipeline encompassing dozens of clinical studies across disease areas. They will partner with cross-functional leaders such as Medical Affairs, Value and Access, Clinical Development, and Government Affairs to co-create a unified therapeutic area strategy and partner with Region Heads and affiliate leaders to ensure a successful global with local operating model. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute on a holistic Oncology therapeutic area strategic vision to balance near-term and long-term priorities and commit to a course of action to accomplish established goals. Co-creation with key matrix stakeholders is a key skillset required. Provide strategic thinking and enterprise mindset to identify future market opportunities, review the franchise portfolio and prioritize opportunities for internal research and external opportunities for potential acquisition or partnering. Collaborate with Oncology TA Leaders and Oncology Program Strategy Leaders to ensure the commercial perspective and strategy is well articulated, communicated, and agreed to by relevant parties (including partners at Kite as appropriate). Build out, lead and develop an industry-leading team of ~20 responsible for global commercialization of the oncology portfolio with lifecycle plans, internal pipeline assets, and an external opt in pipeline across disease areas. Represent commercial leadership on multiple partnership Steering Committees and serve as a decision maker on oncology governance committees. Partner with development to ensure robust lifecycle plans and integrated evidence plans from IND through loss of exclusivity. Oversee early-stage and external molecule commercial assessments including target product profiles, market research and pipeline strategies. Lead the development of disease area strategies within the scope defined by the TA strategy. Oversee the development of launch planning for new products including differentiating strategy, branding, messaging and global launch campaigns. Provide oversight into the development of in-line and pipeline products including indication strategic plans and integrated evidence plans guiding in-market performance. Coordinate cross-functionally with R&D, Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, Value and Access, Health Economics and other functions to carry out the therapeutic area strategy with a cross-functional perspective. Forge strong working relationships with regional commercial partners, cross-functional leadership and senior executives. Support assessment, evaluation, and integration of Business Development deals. Demonstrate strong people leadership aligned with Gileads People Leader Accountabilities and lead by example with integrity, accountability, teamwork, excellence, and inclusion.
Qualifications
Integrative decision-making considering alternatives and trade-offs based on logical assumptions, available resources, constraints and organizational values. Strong strategic thinking using knowledge of economic, financial, market and industry trends to contribute to effective business strategies and tactics. Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration and co-creation with internal and external partners. Technical expertise in end-to-end lifecycle management of a brand, launch planning and execution, and disease area assessment; support of R&D through the drug development process; and evaluation of business development and pipeline opportunities. Expertise in Oncology with a solid understanding of disease, epidemiology, and the science underpinning treatment approaches. Effective communication and influence with senior leaders; ability to persuade and gain acceptance of ideas. Commitment to developing team and individuals knowledge, skills and abilities to fulfill responsibilities. Inspirational leadership that builds trust and motivates teams toward higher engagement and performance. 15+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in marketing and sales roles with global exposure preferred (EU, Japan, etc.). Experience in both in-line and global marketing; at least five years in Oncology marketing. BA/BS required; MBA or advanced scientific/medical degree highly desired.
