This role involves delivering risk-informed legal and business counsel, advising on the legal and governance structures of various philanthropic activities, and leading the negotiation and execution of partnerships and transactions. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in both in-house and law firm settings, with a focus on tax law and compliance, and a strong background in advising 501(c)(3) organizations.
Applicants for this position should have a deep understanding of tax law and compliance, particularly as it pertains to the unique needs of a global nonprofit and philanthropic organization. The role requires the ability to navigate complex legal and governance structures, and to provide strategic guidance on a wide range of legal issues. The Senior Principal Officer will work closely with the Partnerships department, grantmaking programs, and finance teams, and must be adept at delivering legal counsel that is both risk-informed and aligned with the organization's mission. A collaborative and trusted approach to supporting and leading legal aspects of partnerships and transactions is essential. The candidate should be a member in good standing of the D.C. bar or have the ability to be admitted to the bar in D.C.
