About the Role

The Company is seeking an experienced General Counsel to serve as the lead in-house counsel. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the organization's compliance with a wide range of legal standards, including corporate governance, IRS rules for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations, and federal and state lobbying and employment laws. This role involves drafting and reviewing contracts, conducting legal reviews of various materials, providing strategic legal advice for new projects, and managing all aspects of legal compliance. The General Counsel will also be involved in responding to litigation, government inquiries, and will have a key role in the organization's mission of consumer and worker advocacy.

Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must have a J.D. and a minimum of 10 years' legal experience, with a strong preference for those who are admitted to practice law in Washington, DC, or are eligible to waive in. Experience in 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit law is essential, and knowledge of lobbying and employment law is preferred. The ideal candidate will have management experience, strong writing skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. A commitment to the mission of the organization is also a key requirement. The role demands a high level of attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks, and a dedication to maintaining the organization's legal and ethical standards.
