Overview
Executive Director, Facilities Operations & Maintenance - Campus Ambulatory (H) at University of Miami. Full Time role overseeing safety, maintenance and day-to-day functions of the Central Energy Plant and Physical Plant Operations to ensure quality service for University of Miami Medical Campus and outlying health care satellites. Reports to the Assistant Vice President, Facilities Operations and Maintenance for the University of Miami Health System and Miller School of Medicine. Works with the Assistant Vice President to establish short- and long-term departmental goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and implements improvements. Responsibilities
Advise appropriate managing staff of short- and long-term changes necessary to keep facilities in physical compliance with regulatory demands. Maintain documentation for state and local regulatory inspections. Advance and enforce operational procedures and best practices, ensuring staff compliance. Ensure all work areas meet quality, safety, and compliance standards. Oversee internal control, compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, reliability of reporting, and efficiency of operations. Create an effective control environment, conduct risk assessments, and monitor controls. Department Specific Functions
Facility Maintenance and Operations
Plan, organize, and manage maintenance, repairs, and physical operations of hospital facilities and offsite buildings related to utilities. Implement process improvements to reduce costs and improve response time. Evaluate, develop, and implement policies, goals, objectives, and standards of work performance for maintenance and repair of non-patient care equipment, buildings, and building systems (air conditioning, heating, steam, hot water, plumbing, electricity, elevators, building envelopes). Ensure uninterrupted utility services to all University of Miami Miller School of Medicine facilities, including emergency power from the plant. Preventive Maintenance Program
Manage and improve operations and maintenance with best-in-class practices, including quality control, routine maintenance checks, and efficient maintenance approaches. Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce procurement spending and maintain building infrastructure. Facilities Work Control
Oversee facilities work control with focus on process improvement and technology. Conduct routine inspections and engage campus stakeholders to uphold high maintenance standards; maintain active and regular communications with stakeholders on work order status and close out. Strategic Reinvestment and Condition Assessment
Collaborate with Facilities, Operations and Planning leaders to maintain an accurate facilities assessment database and execute Core Infrastructure reinvestment projects to ensure stability of operationally critical buildings. Prepare reports on university health system and medical education/research conditions and needs. CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required; Master’s Degree preferred Minimum 10 years of relevant experience Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
Extensive knowledge of facilities planning, capital and operating budget development, facilities operations and maintenance, and/or facilities management in an academic health setting. Knowledge of Central Energy Plant operations, Nimrod (Front End Building Automation systems software), and Emergency Power Systems. Strong regulatory knowledge of Joint Commission Environment of Care standards, Life Safety, ACHA, Florida Building Codes, and other applicable standards. Knowledge of multi-generator and generator/utility load sharing including multi-utility switching applications. Knowledge of PLC control and information sharing applications including Ethernet, Modbus, Modbus+, CAN and fiber optic communications. Knowledge of building HVAC systems, including pneumatic controls and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. Knowledge of business and management principles; ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations; ability to establish goals and objectives aligned with the strategic plan; ability to plan, delegate, and supervise others. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
