As part of the Risk Management Department (RSM), the Special Assets Division (SAT) is responsible for efficiently managing non-performing and under-performing assets of IDB Invest’s portfolio, including loans, guarantees, and equity operations, through restructuring, workouts, and recovery efforts. Role : Special Assets Managing Director Location : Washington DC (hybrid/remote considerations apply per policy) Reports to : Chief Risk Officer; member of the risk leadership team. Collaborates with CEO, Senior Management Team, and leaders of Credit, ESG, Legal, and Investment functions. Posting date : September 26, 2025 What you’ll do
Strategic Leadership:
Define and implement recovery strategies and division objectives aligned with institutional goals. Portfolio Oversight:
Supervise and negotiate complex distressed loans and guarantees; develop impairment and provision recommendations and asset recovery plans. Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and support Special Assets Officers; foster a high-performing, knowledge-sharing environment. Internal and External Coordination:
Coordinate with Credit Risk, ESG, senior management, and governance bodies; represent SAT in strategic discussions. Risk and Policy Management:
Ensure divisional compliance with risk frameworks and internal policies; proactively address portfolio risks. Performance and Reporting:
Monitor KPIs, ensure transparent reporting, and drive continuous process improvements. Knowledge and Tools:
Support development of management tools and disseminate lessons learned from asset resolutions. What you’ll need
Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or related field. At least 15 years of relevant experience with a proven track record in non-performing and under-performing assets, portfolio strategy, complex negotiations, and risk mitigation/recovery. Proficiency in English and one of the Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese). Requirements
Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab. Type of contract and duration
Staff: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement. What we offer
