in the Medicaid Fraud Control Division. This position is located in Olympia, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE). Paralegal 3 Salary Range 59:
$67,992 - $91,464 (Effective July 1, 2025) The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The work of the Office’s Medicaid Fraud Control Division (MFC) focuses on both criminal and civil law enforcement. The 75% federally funded MFC’s mission is combating provider fraud, abuse and neglect in residential facilities and involving Medicaid recipients in non-institutional settings. MFC’s Headquarters is in Olympia, with team members also in Spokane and Seattle. The Division currently has about 64 FTEs, including attorneys, special agents, data scientists, clinical health investigators, and professional support staff. MFC protects the Medicaid program (roughly $19.6 billion per year) and its most vulnerable persons. Cases range from abuse and neglect in nursing homes to large-scale fraudulent activity and whistleblower actions. Our staff is professional, collaborative, and analytical, with an attorney, special agent, and data analyst assigned to each case. Duties and Essential Functions of a Paralegal 3
Supervises, trains, and coaches legal support staff; applies independent judgment to complex tasks using Everlaw and discovery platforms, NAMFCU repository, and evidentiary organization; determines workload distribution; drafts new office procedures and updates manuals to maximize efficiency. Develops and updates procedures for file organization, litigation preparation, interviews, and appointment/promotion recommendations; conducts evaluations and orientations; assigns and monitors work; conducts reviews; takes corrective action with supervisor/Division Chief. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple openings in addition to the listed position. Provides expert-level support for multi-year investigations and evidence handling; collects, organizes, and analyzes evidence and documents; composes legal documents; maintains litigation, investigation, discovery, and research files; ensures materials are maintained per manuals and updates accordingly. Participates in team meetings and prepares documents for investigations, discovery, and litigation. Integrates technology into case management; maintains document logs; assists with large volumes of documents; ensures witnesses are subpoenaed and notices are served per state/local rules. Serves as liaison among AAGs, AGO personnel, opposing counsel, experts, witnesses, and the public. Ensures updated discovery is provided within deadlines. Performs legal technical work in support of AAGs, investigations, and litigation. Checks legal citations; notifies attorneys of deadlines; files and serves documents per rules; prepares trial notebooks and exhibits; schedules witnesses; assists in developing legal strategy. Analyzes facts, interviews witnesses, and assists with depositions; prepares discovery requests/responses; reviews and summarizes documents from CID process; maintains databases for tracking documents and witnesses.
