About Us
Skills of LIfe Cafe empowers neurodiverse teens and young adults, including those with mild
intellectual disabilities, through vocational training in a real-world café setting. Our mission is to
build inclusive workforce pathways and skills for long-term success and independence.
Role Summary
The Secretary of the Board is a key officer responsible for ensuring accurate documentation of
board meetings, maintaining organizational records, and supporting smooth communication
between board members and staff. This is a volunteer leadership role essential to good
governance.
Key Responsibilities
● Prepare and distribute agendas in collaboration with the Board President and Executive
Director
● Take clear, accurate minutes at all board and committee meetings
● Maintain official records of meetings, bylaws, policies, and other key documents
● Ensure timely distribution of meeting minutes and relevant materials to board members
● Manage board correspondence as needed
● Assist with scheduling meetings and tracking attendance
● Support board communications and recordkeeping to ensure compliance with
governance policies
● Archive historical documents and records securely
Qualifications
● Strong organizational and written communication skills
● Detail-oriented with the ability to take accurate meeting notes
● Comfortable with basic office software (email, Docs, cloud document storage)
● Reliable, punctual, and committed to confidentiality
● Prior experience as a board secretary, or in administrative roles a plus, but not required
● Passion for the mission of supporting neurodiverse youth
Time Commitment
● Approx. 2-6 hours/month
● Attend all board meetings (virtual or in-person) and some committee meetings as
needed
● Time for preparation and distribution of documents before and after meetings
