Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist to contribute to the success of Applied Industrial Technologies as an integral part of the Risk Management and Insurance team. Overview: Maintain and update/upgrade the Applied Industrial corporate wide EMS systems include tracking, reporting, training, and enhancement recommendations to meet/exceed Applied's metrics/expectations. Accountable for the implementation of Applied's Environmental Management System to earn and maintain ISO 14001 certification based on location criteria. Support Applied's sustainability endeavors, meeting the needs of Applied's internal and external stakeholders from an environmental perspective. Provide environmental compliance support to worldwide operations across a variety of regulatory program areas including hazardous waste, water, air emissions, chemical/spill prevention, community right-to-know regulations, environmental product compliance, and import/export chemical compliance. Monitor and control environmental compliance schedules and performance to ensure timely and accurate data reviews and reporting. Enhance and deliver environmental, hazardous materials and product compliance awareness training for associates across the business in multiple locations/divisions. Ensure compliance with existing regulatory requirements while following regulatory trends and evaluating new/proposed regulations. Collect and evaluate data in support of sustainability initiatives for worldwide operations. Evaluate and document compliance performance and capability through the use of regular audits, including adherence to best practices. Manage all aspects of the Dangerous Good shipping requirements. Drive continuous improvement initiatives on an enterprise-wide basis. Job Duties: Manage environmental policies and procedures through the process life cycle including development, commissioning, reporting, and review. Accountable for compliance with international, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Coordinate the development and maintenance of the Dangerous Goods database and Product Compliance tables within ERP software. Establish and maintain operational procedures to meet the packing, shipping, storage, handling, and training requirements of state and federal Department of Transportation for hazardous materials. Evaluate location operations and processes to determine the applicability of federal, state, and local Environmental Regulatory requirements. Manage responses from regulators regarding non-conformance/compliance with applicable federal, state, and local Environmental regulations and monitor corrective action requirements for applicable operations. Lead the ISO 14001 certification process, including the completion of associated recordkeeping, filing, documentation, and corrective actions, along with other ongoing maintenance activities. Conduct environmental and hazardous materials due diligence audit and reviews for acquisitions. Coordinate and execute emergency response activities involving spills or discharges of hazardous materials. Monitor waste disposal practices and procedures for all materials. Coordinate, monitor and report on Environmental indicators (i.e., Hazardous waste generation-US, GHG emissions, etc.).
