POSITION SUMMARY The Campus Safety & Security Officer will provide a visible and proactive presence on campus to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for monitoring and patrolling the campus, responding to incidents, assisting in emergency situations, and enforcing university policies to maintain a secure environment. The Campus Safety & Security Officer will work closely with other campus safety personnel.

Responsibilities: • Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds to monitor for safety hazards, security breaches, and suspicious activity. • Enforce university policies, including but not limited to, building access, parking regulations, and general safety standards to maintain order and prevent disturbances. • Respond to campus emergencies, disturbances, or incidents, providing immediate assistance and ensuring proper reporting and follow-up procedures. • Assist in monitoring security systems such as video surveillance, alarm systems, and access control to identify and address potential security risks. • Provide assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors with directions, information, or support as needed, contributing to a positive campus environment. • Document and report security-related incidents or safety concerns to the appropriate authorities, including the campus safety team, law enforcement, or university administration. • Provide support in emergency situations, including evacuations, medical emergencies, or natural disasters, and assist emergency responders when necessary. • Maintain a positive and approachable demeanor, engaging with the campus community to build trust and rapport while ensuring adherence to campus rules. • Complete and maintain accurate reports of daily activities, incidents, and security-related events to ensure proper documentation and follow-up. • Assist in the upkeep and readiness of security equipment, such as radios, flashlights, and other devices used for patrolling and monitoring campus activities. • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications: • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A-Unarmed Security Officer License or Law Enforcement Certification. • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or related fields is preferred but not required. Training will be provided. • Certification in First Aid and CPR is preferred but not required. • Experience in a university or campus setting is a plus. • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and law enforcement, both verbally and in writing. • Friendly, approachable, and professional attitude with the ability to assist and interact with a diverse campus community. • Ability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately, especially in emergency or high-pressure scenarios. • Strong observational skills and attention to detail to identify safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or security concerns. • Ability to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods of time, including in various weather conditions. • Understanding campus rules, regulations, and emergency procedures, and the ability to enforce them effectively. • Demonstrated ability to stay calm and composed when responding to emergencies or confrontational situations. • Must possess a valid Missouri driver's license, with the ability to operate a vehicle if needed for patrol duties. • Multilingual skills highly preferred. • Ability to contribute to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
