The Impact You'll Make in this Role: The Manufacturing Technology division leads 3M in the digital areas of data analytics, data automation, and automated inspection to improve manufacturing operations across 3M. This person will be responsible for database administration to enable automated inspection systems across 3M manufacturing locations. Driving business results through actions from automated inspection data will help 3M win. As a SQL Database Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Design and development, create and maintain database systems, including designing database schemas, writing complex SQL queries, and developing stored procedures. Install, configure, and maintain SQL database servers and processes. Monitor system health and performance to ensure high levels of stability, availability, and security. Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and archiving. Troubleshoot and resolve database outages. Partner with software and application engineering teams to design and deploy new platforms, as well as to support and modernize existing infrastructure. Ensure compliance with corporate IT standards. Support manufacturing systems across the global 3M manufacturing footprint, including rotating 24/7 on-call system support. Your Skills and Expertise: To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Science field (completed and verified prior to start) One (1) year Microsoft SQL experience, including designing database schemas, writing complex SQL queries, and developing stored procedures in a private, public, government or military environment Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Five (5) or more years' experience in full-time Database Administrator or Database Engineer role. Certification in SQL Server administration. Experience with 3M IT corporate systems. Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and provide guidance to solution. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server. Experience with SSIS or other ETL tools. Software development experience. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and team skills.
