Job Announcement

This position supports the Chief Information Officer (CIO)/Director of DIT. This essential position acts as the primary administrative liaison for the Director and plays a central role in coordinating executive-level operations and communications. As the supervisor of the administrative team, works closely with DIT leadership and technology professionals across the department to support mission-critical initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent judgment, executive presence, and the ability to handle complex administrative tasks independently.

Key responsibilities:

Provides high-level administrative and para-professional support to the Chief Information Officer (CIO)/Director of DIT. Serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding the Director's schedule, communications, and office functions. Screens and responds to telephone calls, visitors, vendors and correspondence on behalf of the director. Prepares and edits correspondence, memoranda, reports, presentations, and spreadsheets, including materials related to IT initiatives such as cybersecurity, digital transformation, and infrastructure upgrades. Coordinates logistics and agendas for high-level meetings and committees, including:

Information Technology Policy Advisory Committee (ITPAC). Senior Information Technology Committee. Vendor engagements and cross-functional IT project meetings.

Support IT leadership (e.g., CIO, CTO, CISO) and project teams to track key technology efforts and deliverables. Utilizes IT systems and tools (e.g., SharePoint, ServiceNow, project management or ticketing systems) to support internal processes, meeting preparation, and document management. Handles sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. Organizes and maintains files and records in accordance with county and departmental procedures. Participates in planning and coordination of agency events and internal logistics. Functions independently to anticipate needs, establish priorities, and ensure timely execution of administrative responsibilities. Note:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and four years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional demeanor with exceptional administrative, organizational, and customer service skills. Experience supporting senior IT executives or technology leadership teams. Skilled in drafting technical documents, preparing executive reports/presentations, and coordinating technology-related projects. Strong verbal/written communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities. Familiarity with government or large public-sector environments; knowledge of Fairfax County systems and policies a plus. Understanding of administrative procedures in budget, personnel, document management, and event coordination.
