Health and Specialty Care Services (HSCS) supports ten psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state supported living centers. The role contributes to IT support for HSCS facilities in alignment with HHSC policies, standards, and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (EJFs):

  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be assigned a specific or rotating shift, including overtime as needed.
  • Front-line technical support for local and remote personnel for PC hardware, software, and connectivity; document issues in the Help Desk system; adhere to SLA standards.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain LAN hardware; support WAN equipment; coordinate with Data Center Services (DCS) vendor for performance and backups; assist with limited server duties (e.g., adding users, establishing rights).
  • Install and maintain hardware/software on agency workstations; maintain patches, connectivity, and security software.
  • Provide limited instruction and user support on network, data, and telecommunications hardware and software; train staff on IT systems and HHSC policies.
  • Conduct product evaluations and recommend enhancements to network facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response, COOP, and related activities; may require alternate shift pattern or location.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of network facilities, PC hardware/software, network OS and security software, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; ability to translate technical terms for training and orientation.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve network problems, train others, work in a team, and supervise when needed; willingness to move equipment and work non-standard hours; adhere to HHSC guiding principles and ethics.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications: Completion of CompTIA A+ training required within first year of employment.

Initial Screening Criteria:

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows desktop OS in LAN/WAN environments.
  • Hands-on support for PC hardware and peripherals in LAN/WAN environments.
  • Education or certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+, Microsoft, Cisco) or related fields may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
