The Building Services Section in King County's
Facilities Management Division
(FMD), is seeking to fill several
Utility Worker I
positions. The Utility Worker team is responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and equipment operation duties not associated with journey-level work in any skilled trade. This role is involves working with a variety of people in a variety of locations; no two days are the same!
Our ideal applicant is someone that has some experience in light maintenance, grounds cleaning, operating hand tools and wants to grow in our organization. The standard workweek is
40 hours, Monday - Friday. The hours for this role are
6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. This work might be performed in
multiple locations , including the Downtown Corridor, Kent, and/or the King County airport at the managers discretion. Who are we: We are a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities. The Building Operations Section of FMD maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse and District Courts, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several Public Health facilities. Our facilities range in age from 8 to 100 years old, with equipment such as boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems. Clean and maintain a variety of areas, including building and or/bus shelter interiors and exteriors, surroundings landscapes, parking areas and vehicles. Operate power tools including pressure washers. Maintain daily logs and complete work requests on assignments. Load and drive various types of trucks including dump and box trucks. Assist in performing minor maintenance and repairs to facilities, grounds and structures, including periodic preventive maintenance and inspection, and repairs resulting from vandalism and emergencies. Lift, carry, move office furniture and equipment using moving equipment as well as manually. Set up meeting rooms as necessary. Other duties as assigned. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE:
Previous work experience performing physical tasks in a capacity related to this position. Predictable and reliable attendance. Knowledge of the basic use and care of tools and equipment. Ability to get along and work effectively with others in the team. Basic knowledge of building craft and mechanical trades. Knowledge of safety procedures. Ability to take direct orders, work assignment and communicate effectively with the supervisor.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License. Driving is a regular job function of this position - a five year Washington State Complete Driver's Abstract will be required. Final appointment is contingent upon acceptable driving history, successfully passing the fingerprint based criminal history check, and a pre-employment physical examination.

This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. The standard workweek is
40 hours, Monday - Friday. The hours for this role are
