Overview

Responsibilities

• Monitor vehicular and pedestrian traffic at facilities to prevent unauthorized entry into restricted areas.
• Conduct and record screening of vehicles and passengers boarding ferries to detect threats such as explosives or harmful devices.
• Serve as a front-line employee and, when needed, as a first responder in emergencies while maintaining positive customer service.
• Identify individuals who may intend to cause harm while respecting traveler privacy rights.
• Perform security rounds and sweeps to identify attempts to bypass security measures.

Work Schedule

The position generally works shift work – 7 days on and 7 days off, with schedule and routine duties potentially altered at management’s discretion. This position will work at the Southport Ferry Operations.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Basic knowledge of identifying improvised explosive devices and suspicious behavior.
• Skills in searching vehicles and baggage to detect harmful substances and devices.
• Skills in dealing with uncooperative travelers who refuse to provide identification or allow screening.
• Experience in conducting rounds and sweeps to identify attempts to circumvent security measures.
• Preferred credential: Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• May require ability to complete EMT training and meet re-certification standards as required.
