General Function

As a Coffee Shop Barista, this position is responsible for reviewing and filling customer orders for the day, handling food in a safe manner, and keeping the work area clean and neat. Provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members to maintain a positive company image.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; Coffee Shop Department Manager.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting care and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and addresses them by name when possible.
• Assists customers by escorting to products, securing items, and passing along suggestions or requests to enhance the shopping experience.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service, including taking orders.
• Takes customer orders at the counter and works with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Handles food safely and maintains a clean work area; reviews product freshness and maintains adequate food supply.
• Develops or follows a production list and anticipates department needs daily.
• Prepares and replenishes product; checks in product, stores it properly, and reviews invoices as applicable.
• Operates department registers and handles payments where applicable.
• Removes trash promptly and adheres to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Follows company policies and store guidelines; reports to work as scheduled and on time.

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities

• Washes dishes as necessary.
• Orders product and supplies as needed.
• Prices products for customers as necessary.
• Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics

• Ability to follow detailed but uncomplicated written or verbal instructions; handle a few concrete variables.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic and record information accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; request supplies as needed.

Education And Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, and six months or less of similar or related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform medium work: exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Vision requirements include distance vision, color vision, depth perception and field of view.
• Capable of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, speaking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Store environment with exposure to noise, cleaning chemicals/solvents, and potential hazards. There is pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Temperature extremes may occur.

Compensation

Hourly starting wage anticipated to be $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience.
