Executive Director Urban Ministries of Wake County UMWC is launching a search for its next Executive Director. Reporting to and working closely with the Board of Directors, the ED will provide transparent leadership that builds upon the organization's history while providing oversight of agency operations, culture, values, talent, and financial performance. The Executive Director ensures the long-term sustainability and effective execution of UMWC’s mission, serving as the face of the organization. Build relationships across diverse stakeholders including staff, board, government, current and prospective donors and volunteers, and community partners. Provide leadership and support to the Board of Directors in attaining and allocating resources; implement programs to meet community needs; coach and mentor staff. Lead and participate in fundraising activities, in collaboration with development staff and board members, to secure sustainable financial support. Set priorities, delegate effectively, ensure accountability, and use data and metrics to drive decision-making. Guide strategic planning efforts, align internal work, and deepen stakeholder engagement; translate goals into actionable plans and manage change as needed. Develop and maintain strong community connections; articulate UMWC’s mission and needs to create strategic alliances and partnerships with individuals, businesses, faith communities, government, and the broader community. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to drive organizational goals, ensuring open communication, alignment with the mission, and accountability. Foster an inclusive organizational culture, support staff development, and ensure alignment between strategic priorities and staff capacity. Demonstrate deep passion for the mission, empathy for people affected by poverty, and resilience in times of crisis to maintain service continuity. Qualifications

Resource Development:

Successful experience developing robust and diversified funding strategies, reducing reliance on government funding, and expanding support from individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners; ability to actively engage in cultivation and solicitation. Business Acumen:

Strong financial management skills, ability to develop and manage budgets for sustainability, effective delegation and decision-making, and use of data to evaluate progress. Strategic Vision and Planning:

Strategic planning experience with change management, capability to set clear goals, translate them into actionable plans, manage change, and adapt strategies to community needs. Community Connections:

Experience building robust community relationships and communicating the organization’s mission clearly to create strategic alliances. Board Relations:

Ability to work closely with the board, facilitate open communication, align activities with the mission, and leverage board expertise and networks. Staff Development and Management:

Ability to support, empower, and motivate staff; foster a positive, inclusive culture; ensure alignment between priorities and staff capacity; support retention and impact. About Urban Ministries of Wake County

Founded in 1981, Urban Ministries of Wake County (UMWC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides essential services to individuals affected by poverty across Wake County, North Carolina. The name Urban Ministries reflects the organization’s origins in addressing urgent needs within Wake County and is not a religious affiliation. UMWC is not a faith-based organization. The organization’s mission is to meet the basic needs of Wake County’s most vulnerable residents, including addressing food insecurity, helping women transition from homelessness to housing, and providing access to health care for uninsured adults.
