As a member of the Schools Leadership Team, the Head of Middle School reports directly to the Head of School and partners with other members of the leadership team to bolster and reinforce Cannon Schools culture in alignment with our mission and core values. The Head of Middle School leads all Middle School faculty and staff in building a growth-oriented educational program. In this primary objective, the Head of Middle School furthers Cannons vision, enhancing the Middle School experience by: supporting and developing students and educators to their fullest potential fostering a deep sense of community belonging engaging on-campus and off-campus resources and partners Responsibilities
Support Cannon Schools mission, vision, and core values Serve as a member of Cannons Leadership Team Advance Cannons strategy and organization-wide initiatives and objectives Collaborate with the Head of School to develop a vision for Middle School, grades 5-8, that promotes growth, development, and achievement in support of students Develop and achieve annual learning/growth targets for the MS Lead, develop, and evaluate the Middle Schools key leaders including the Assistant Head for Student Life, the Assistant Head for Academics, Deans of Students, Counselors, the Dean of Innovation, the Dean of Academic Support, and Department Chairs to create a learning environment that is growth-oriented, mission-aligned, and student-centered Facilitate the professional growth and development of MS faculty & staff through evaluation, goal setting, and a strong emphasis on personalized professional development Provide leadership and direction for curriculum review and enhancement in the Middle School in partnership with the Lower and Upper School Division Heads, the Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Arts Director Support the Middle School Athletics experience in partnership with the Athletic Director and the Middle School Athletic Director In support of the MS Counseling and Learning Support team, engage and partner with families, students and teachers regarding conflict, counseling, discipline, learning differences and behavioral accommodations Oversee the supervision of all administrative matters in the MS including budget, scheduling, and facilities usage Create a culture in which members of the MS community - parents, students, faculty, staff and volunteers - feel valued and accepted in support of the schools engagement goals in partnership with the Director of Diversity, Belongingness, and Engagement, and Director of Advancement Partner with the Office of Admission on the development of a set of recruitment strategies specific to MS focusing on the enrollment of a vibrant, diverse student body consistent with Cannons mission and educational philosophy Develop and execute a communications strategy in partnership with the LS & MS Division Heads, and Marketing & Communications that effectively updates and informs all key stakeholders throughout the school community Partner with the Director of Human Resources on all employment related needs including recruitment, orientation/onboarding, training, supervising, assessing, evaluating, and supporting MS faculty and staff Education
Bachelors Required, Masters Or Doctorate Preferred. Previous primary or secondary school leadership required. Job Requirements
A love of children and a proven understanding of how pre-adolescent children develop as learners Demonstrated leadership in middle school education Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various constituents, including students, other division heads, faculty/staff, Trustees, and parents A willingness to attend events, support faculty, and be available during non-school hours Ability to maintain the greatest degree of confidentiality and professionalism Superior organizational, administrative, oral and written communication skills Ability to work under pressure both independently and within a team-oriented environment while maintaining a culture in alignment with the schools mission A competitive spirit and a growth mindset Seniority level
