The observations are analyzed, researched and segregated in order to create work elements. These expressions may be formulated mathematically into multivariable standard data tables. Industrial Engineering principles are used throughout all developments. Factors that reflect the expenditure of physical effort have to be created.The incumbent applies labor, overhead, and material costs for determination of standard costs for tank assembly or manufactured components. The incumbent develops cost comparisons for make/buy decisions. He/she has to estimate those inquiries that are non-tank and portions of special high cost tank cars. In order to arrive at a satisfactory solution, the incumbent has close and continuous contact with shop management, Product Engineering, Welding Engineering, Quality Control, and Manufacturing Engineering at each Manufacturing Facility.The incumbent initiates improvement programs such as; Kaizens, 5's, etc. to improve safety, quality, production efficiency, costs and housekeeping and to minimize non-value-added activities. The incumbent promotes and supports lean philosophies in all areas.The incumbent performs the process planning related to subassembly and assembly of tank and car operations for the manufacturing facilities. Assembly operations on complex vessels and prototype vessels require extensive interpretation and study in order to ascertain proper planning. It requires significant and detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes. Upon receipt of engineering specifications, the incumbent studies all aspects of manufacturing requirements. He/she will resolve any deficiencies with the Project Engineer, Welding Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, and the Production Management. He/she will identify alternate methods of assembly, calculate labor standards and select the appropriate and least-cost process of manufacture. The incumbent will study the project as it relates to equipment capacity and resolve the appropriate method. Processes are not always the same for each facility.The incumbent works to meet internal and external customer expectations at all times by fully applying oneself to the task involved, preventing errors, and developing and implementing personal quality improvement projects. In addition, the incumbent is required to understand the Responsible Care Management System and actively participate in activities outlined therein.**In order to perform the essential functions of the job, the incumbent must possess, at a minimum, the following skills and abilities:*** Willingness and ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to: safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, ear plugs and respirators.* Have vision correctable to 20/20 for inspection activities.* **Willingness and ability to travel outside of the normal place of work approximately 30%-40% of the time.*** Ability to enter tank cars via a manway opening approximately 20" wide and to tolerate confined spaces.* Ability to climb to the top of and walk on tank cars without fear of heights, with appropriate safety equipment.* Ability to bend, stretch and crawl to perform inspections in the plant.This position requires an Industrial Engineering degree or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience in a closely related field.**Essential Functions:*** Develops work-measurement standards for the estimating, planning, scheduling and costing.* Develops method descriptions or work instructions for shop operations.* Develops labor, overhead, and material estimates of manufacturing costs to ensure profitable pricing of tank cars.* Recommends refinements to existing processes in order to lower manufacturing costs.* Establishes routings and applies standard time allowances for manufacturing controls, so that orderly manufacturing conditions are maintained and information is available for production controls.* Maintains constant vigilance on shop operations and procedures through the use of Kaizen teams lean techniques and other engineering tools.* Participates in and actively supports quality projects and activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.## We take pride in offering our employees rich benefits packages.
