Senior Counsel role at Scribd, Inc. We are seeking a commercial and compliance lawyer to join Scribd’s Legal Team. The role reports to the General Counsel and provides legal advice across all areas including compliance, contract negotiation, and risk management to support business growth in a complex regulatory environment. You Will / Responsibilities

Product Counseling & Compliance: Provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice on Scribd product development and marketing, including privacy, data security, consumer protection, online safety, and content moderation. Privacy Due Diligence & Assessments: Conduct privacy due diligence reviews, privacy impact assessments (PIAs), and integration planning for partnerships, launches, and new technologies. Regulatory Compliance & Transparency: Develop and oversee compliance with global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, COPPA) and online safety laws (e.g., UK OSA, DSA). Incident Response & Security: Advise on security incident preparedness and response, including incident response plans and breach notification requirements. Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with engineering, product, marketing, and security to implement compliance and privacy-by-design practices in the product lifecycle. Policy Development & Training: Develop internal policies, playbooks, and training programs to strengthen compliance awareness and risk management across teams. Strategic Content Guidance: Provide guidance on content licensing, distribution, copyright, and content-related legal matters, including generative AI technologies. Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Review and negotiate vendor agreements, data processing agreements, and partnerships, focusing on privacy and security provisions; develop templates and improve contract processes. You Have / Requirements

J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Minimum of 5 years of legal practice with significant experience in privacy, data protection, and product counseling (in-house or law firm). Experience with global privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, COPPA) and intermediary/social media regulations. Experience managing security incident response and breach notification advice. Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, especially with data protection and security terms. Excellent judgment, ability to balance legal risk with business goals in a fast-paced environment. Clear, concise communication and ability to collaborate cross-functionally. Strategic thinking with practical legal advice and strong work ethic; ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple projects. Compensation & Benefits

We provide a comprehensive compensation package with a salary range determined by location and level. California ranges: typically $152,500 to $246,500. Outside California, U.S. ranges: approximately $125,500 to $234,250. Canada ranges: approximately CAD 159,000 to CAD 219,000. Equity opportunities and a generous benefits package are included.
