Product Counseling & Compliance: Provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice on issues arising from development and marketing of Scribd products and features, including privacy, data security, consumer protection (marketing disclosures), online safety, and content moderation. Privacy Due Diligence & Assessments: Conduct privacy due diligence reviews, privacy impact assessments (PIAs), and integration planning for partnerships, product launches, and new technologies. Regulatory Compliance & Transparency: Develop compliance programs and oversee ongoing compliance with domestic and global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, COPPA) and online safety laws (e.g., UK OSA and DSA). Incident Response & Security: Advise on security incident preparedness and response, including incident response plans, breach notification requirements, and post-incident communications. Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with engineering, product management, marketing, and security to operationalize compliance and privacy-by-design in the product development lifecycle. Policy Development & Training: Develop internal policies, playbooks, and training programs to strengthen compliance awareness and risk management. Strategic Guidance on Content: Provide guidance on content licensing, distribution, copyright, and content-related legal matters, including generative AI technologies. Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Review and negotiate contracts (vendor agreements, data processing agreements, partnerships), focusing on privacy and security; develop templates and processes with internal stakeholders. You Have / Requirements

J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Minimum of 5 years of legal practice with significant privacy, data protection, and product counseling experience (in-house or law firm). Demonstrated expertise with global privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, COPPA) and knowledge of intermediary/social media regulations. Experience managing security incident response and breach notification advice. Strong contracting and negotiation background, especially with data protection and security terms. Excellent judgment and ability to balance legal risk with business goals in a fast-paced environment. Clear, concise communication and ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners. Compensation: The base pay is part of total compensation and varies by location and level. Salary ranges reflect local cost of labor benchmarks. California ranges: $152,500 to $246,500. US outside California: $125,500 to $234,250. Canada: CAD 159,000 to CAD 219,000. The position is eligible for equity and a benefits package. Specific ranges may vary by level. Location & Eligibility
