HUMAN RESOURCES AND PAYROLL SPECIALIST, School of Social Work, Administration

The Boston University School of Social Work is seeking a Human Resources and Payroll Specialist to oversee and manage all HR and payroll functions for the School. This position supports faculty, staff, and student employment needs and ensures the seamless execution of payroll and personnel operations. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration, the Payroll and HR Specialist is responsible for payroll processing, reconciliation, and analysis; managing personnel actions; and coordinating the annual performance evaluation and merit increase cycles. This position serves as a critical partner to managers and supervisors, offering guidance on position evaluations, staffing structures, and personnel budgeting. The Specialist also acts as the primary liaison with central Human Resources and Payroll offices, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all aspects of the employee lifecycle. Responsibilities

Oversee and manage all HR and payroll functions for the School of Social Work. Support faculty, staff, and student employment needs; ensure seamless payroll processing and personnel operations. Process payroll, conduct reconciliation and analysis; manage personnel actions. Coordinate annual performance evaluation and merit increase cycles. Partner with managers and supervisors, providing guidance on position evaluations, staffing structures, and personnel budgeting. Serve as primary liaison with central Human Resources and Payroll offices to ensure accuracy and consistency across the employee lifecycle. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. 3–5 years of relevant experience. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to advise faculty and staff regarding HR, organizational, and administrative matters. Strong organizational and time management skills; high attention to detail and accuracy. Professionalism, diplomacy, creativity, and enthusiasm; supervisory experience. Knowledge of payroll systems and processes; familiarity with SAP and JobX; experience with SharePoint is preferred. Higher education experience (especially in a BU environment) is a plus; master’s degree is a plus. Experience in a university or unionized environment is a plus. Requirements and Working Context

Must manage university-imposed deadlines affecting all employees across the school; ability to plan ahead and manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines. Strong skills in process management, data management, communication, organization, and analysis. Confidential handling of information and adherence to university policies and regulations.
