Role Overview
Title: Solution Architect Level: L5 (very senior position, mature engineering background expected) Team: Architecture Team (up to 5 architects) Reports To: CTO Purpose: Translate business strategy into testable and compliant architectural solutions, ensuring scalability and delivery velocity through DDD-first and platform-oriented methods.
Key Responsibilities
Create and maintain Solution Architecture Documents (SADs) covering bounded contexts, service responsibilities, and dependencies using tools like C4 modeling. Conduct architecture reviews and enforce compliance with enterprise guidelines, resilience standards, and regulatory requirements. Lead architecture governance processes, including ADR ownership, design reviews, risk sign-offs, and documentation traceability. Support technology initiatives by collaborating with Centers of Competence to define direction, select/retire technologies, and enable modernization. Facilitate discovery and proof-of-concepts (PoCs) by building prototypes in PHP, Go, Kotlin, or other relevant stacks to validate feasibility and guide engineering teams. Design and oversee cross-system integrations (mobile/web/clients, platform services, external partners) with APIs, events, and schema evolution rules. Define non-functional requirements (SLOs, reliability, security, performance, operability) and ensure monitoring via observability platforms. Drive migration strategies (e.g., strangler patterns, legacy extractions) and support cost optimization in hybrid AWS/on-prem environments. Champion platform services reuse (IAM, messaging, configuration, observability) by creating golden-path templates, SDKs, and reference implementations. Mentor senior engineers and facilitate architecture refinement sessions, aligning Product, Compliance, Security, and Engineering teams on trade-offs.
Must-Have Qualifications
7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with proven delivery in distributed or regulated systems (validated via resume/portfolio). 2+ years of hands-on solution architecture experience, including SAD/ADR creation and governance practices (validated via work samples/interviews). Practical experience with cloud (AWS, GCP) and hybrid on-prem infrastructures, including Kubernetes and Rancher (validated via past project evidence). Proficiency with messaging/event systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and workflow engines (Temporal) (validated via interviews/technical tasks). Strong coding ability in PHP, Go, or Kotlin, demonstrated through PoCs or production-level contributions (validated via repo samples/technical test). Proficiency in data layer design with Postgres/MySQL and schema evolution/versioning (validated via project experience). Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory/security requirements into system controls (validated via incident reviews or compliance deliverables).
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Hands-on experience with AI adoption in architecture (e.g., code assistants, guardrails, observability for AI components). Knowledge of event sourcing and advanced DDD techniques. Expertise in workflow orchestration (sagas, compensation, BPMN). Experience with multi-tenant architectures across regions or brands.
