The Senior Manager - Global Catering Ops & Logistics position supports the global network of over three dozen vendors and more than 145 catering locations. This role ensures that United remains in compliance with regulations, shapes United’s catering policies and procedures, leads investigations, and promotes an effective safety and food safety culture. This role supports our commitment to partnership and leads our catering vendor management team and provides operational oversight of the catering network. This role engages with and supports our United stakeholders from inflight, hospitality and planning as well as those in our airports and works to elevate the quality and performance of our operation. This role helps facilitate key strategy decisions to ensure best use of materials, resources, talent, and time. This role is focused and aligned with organization objectives and supports establishment of performance goals and is a key contributor to United’s vendor SLA programs, as well as the understanding and awareness of performance metrics and corrective action plans. Responsibilities
Accountable for overall execution, compliance and performance of the caterer network through management of team members directly responsible for vendor and performance management at catering locations globally, ensuring all catering partners adhere to applicable regulatory and company policy requirements Achieve safety, reliability, financial and quality goals Define and set strategy and parameters to drive catering performance enhancements Provide coaching and direction to the team to drive performance improvements Leverage performance data to manage performance and develop plans for improvement Coordinate team efforts and projects to ensure alignment and drive results, reallocating resources as needed Use data to compile and present regular performance and status updates to leaders, including executives Logistics
Provide leadership and direction to the operations team to ensure accurate reporting and responsible use of United assets, equipment, and materials by catering partners Ensure system-wide adoption of a robust performance system with goals and measures focused on inventory reporting, stock levels, stockouts, and expedited orders to optimize distribution resources, warehouse space and materials Support processes and controls for handling United’s rotable equipment efficiently and reliably Oversee irregular operations such as substitutions, rebalancing or repacking of equipment and inventory across the network Support oversight of system distribution partners and operations upstream of the catering location portfolio Partnership & Communication
Develop and maintain lines of communication with the menu design and development team and other operating groups including Airport Operations and Inflight Provide operational perspective in discussions and projects to ensure robust planning and awareness of capabilities and needs Lead and/or participate in projects to improve partnership and interactions between catering partners and other operating groups Facilitate communication with partnering groups on behalf of the team Troubleshoot issues involving other teams to improve overall performance Team Development
Provide training and growth opportunities to the team through training projects and other development initiatives Support career objectives of team members and engagement in BRGs and cross-functional projects that support growth Foster a culture of recognition and camaraderie among our team and vendor partners, including oversight of catering partner recognition events This position is hybrid and will require work in the office 3 days a week. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant work experience Field: Business, Operations, Strategy, Industrial Engineering or related Minimum 4+ years’ experience in operational, vendor management or related leadership role Vendor management Project management Strong analytical skills Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Exceptional planning, organizational, written and verbal communication skills Ability to document and communicate opportunities and action plans clearly and actionably Ability to lead stakeholders through complex planning and implementation Proven ability to work independently and in teams Ability to travel up to 50% Legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship Successful completion of interview to meet job qualifications Reliable, punctual attendance Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or 6 years of relevant work experience 8+ years’ experience in operations, vendor management or related leadership Airport operation, inflight or catering operations experience Strong people leader Lean / Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing Continuous Improvement HACCP, PCQI or equivalent food safety certificates Compensation & Benefits
The base pay range for this role is $124,735 to $162,388. This position is eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation.
