Overview

MRI Technologist role at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. The MRI Technologist is responsible for reviewing the physician order and reason for exam, preparing the patient, positioning, and performing MRI imaging. Demonstrates advanced functional knowledge of MRI/MRA and related clinical indicators. May adjust scanning protocols based on anatomy/physiology presented and will work with MRI leadership and Radiologist to produce diagnostic images. Administers contrast media as required and may assist with MRI-guided invasive procedures. Responsibilities

Review patients' charts/requisitions and results from previous procedures; document medical information and explain the procedure in layman terms with care and tact. Review requests for MRI procedures, patient history, preparation recommendations, and department guidelines to determine appropriate diagnostic images, regions, procedures, and protocols. Interact with radiologists and referring physicians to ensure correct procedures. Position patients on the scanning table and operate MRI equipment according to protocols. Adjust and control imaging equipment; apply knowledge of anatomy and procedures to provide studies for interpretation. Screen for safety when administering IV contrast; follow sterile techniques for injections and monitor for adverse reactions. Operate peripheral equipment and monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures; initiate emergency actions if needed. Screen patients for metal hazards to reduce injury risk in high-strength magnetic fields. Maintain a clean and organized work area; log weekly QA and report instrumentation issues. Instruct and assist radiology students and junior staff; provide on-the-job training as needed. Notify personnel of equipment malfunctions and diagnose minor software issues; coordinate with department for repairs. Collaborate with physicians and management to improve staff and patient education through in-services and training sessions. Adapt to schedule changes and maintain positive relationships with team members; assist with patient transport as needed. Provide quality patient care considering age, development, and cultural needs. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Completion of an accredited MRI Technologist program preferred. Advanced certification in MRI by ARRT or ARMRIT required; OR MRI Registry-eligible with certification within one year of hire. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association. One year MRI experience preferred. Good working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy; proficient in venipuncture. Ability to set up and operate MRI equipment. Maintain Continuing Education credits (24 CEU in two periods) and other requirements to maintain ARRT certification. Total Rewards and Benefits
