Position Opportunity
The Fleet Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring full compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), FMCSA, and company safety regulations. This role also oversees the daily dispatch and operational coordination of CDL and box truck drivers covering local routes across three shifts. The manager will implement and monitor fleet policies, maintain driver qualification files, oversee vehicle maintenance programs, and act as a key liaison between the drivers, safety, and operations teams.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
DOT Compliance & Safety: Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local DOT regulations, including FMCSA standards. Maintain accurate and up-to-date driver qualification files, vehicle inspection records, drug & alcohol testing documentation, and hours of service (HOS) logs. Conduct regular internal audits and support external audits (e.g., DOT, insurance). Investigate and report vehicle incidents, driver violations, and non-compliance issues. Coordinate driver training and retraining programs.
Fleet Dispatch & Operations: Oversee the dispatching of CDL and box truck drivers on local routes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts at all DC's. Schedule daily assignments to ensure on-time delivery and pickup of goods across shifts. Monitor driver check-ins, route progress, and service timelines using fleet management systems (e.g., Samsara, Verizon Connect, etc.). Act as the primary point of contact for drivers, resolving issues in real-time. Adjust driver coverage in response to absences, equipment availability, or operational changes.
Leadership & Communication: Supervise and support team of local drivers, ensuring strong performance, adherence to safety standards, and high morale. Provide regular coaching, performance feedback, and partner with Human Resources on any disciplinary actions. Collaborate cross-departmentally ensuring smooth transportation support for business operations. Lead daily or shift-specific driver huddles to communicate priorities, expectations, and updates.
Qualifications
Education/Related Experience: High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's is a plus. Minimum of 3-5 years of DOT compliance, fleet management and transportation experience required.
Knowledge/Skills Experience: Prior dispatching experience and knowledge of routing tools highly preferred. Working knowledge of FMCSA, ELD, HOS, and vehicle inspection regulations. Supervisory experience in a transportation or logistics environment. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fleet management software. CDL license (Class A or B) DOT Medical Card
Travel Requirements: Full-time, on-site position with regular presence across all three shifts as needed. Must be available for occasional after-hours support, especially during emergencies or shift transitions.
