Staff Accountant (Hybrid)

Job Type: Full-Time | Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Company Overview: We are a growing, dynamic company based in San Mateo, CA, looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, thrives in a collaborative environment, and has a passion for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting business operations.
This is a hybrid position, offering a mix of remote flexibility and in-office collaboration in our San Mateo location.
Position Summary: The Staff Accountant will support daily accounting operations, maintain general ledger entries, assist with month-end and year-end close, and ensure compliance with internal controls and GAAP standards. This role reports directly to the Accounting Manager and will work closely with other departments such as Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post journal entries for month-end close
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet accounts
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and monthly reporting packages
- Maintain and update general ledger accounts and sub-ledgers
- Perform account analysis and variance explanations
- Support the preparation of schedules for audits and tax filings
- Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions
- Help ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls
- Assist with fixed asset accounting, accruals, and prepaids
- Participate in process improvement initiatives within the accounting function
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in general accounting or public/private accounting
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Oracle, or similar ERP systems)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly across teams
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a hybrid or remote environment
- CPA candidate or intent to pursue CPA is a plus
- Exposure to audit processes and financial controls
