Staff Accountant

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team in Amherst, MA. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting the accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, assisting with month-end close processes, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and integrity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of general ledger entries and reconciliations
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly
  • Process and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation
  • Prepare journal entries and ensure appropriate documentation
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing required schedules and documentation
  • Help identify and implement process improvements within the accounting function
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, procurement, and global offices

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Staff Accountant or similar role

Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including use of pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas

Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems)

Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong organizational and time management skills

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations

Familiarity with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules

Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams including operations and procurement
