Diesel Mechanic

The Diesel Mechanic is a skilled technician responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on Class 8 tractors and trailers. This role requires solid mechanical knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot complex issues, and a commitment to safety and equipment reliability. The Diesel Mechanic plays a key role in supporting shop operations, ensuring fleet readiness, and reducing equipment downtime.

Summary Of Essential Job Functions

Diagnostics & Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, brake systems, suspensions, electrical systems, and drivetrains on Class 8 trucks and trailers.
  • Perform component replacements, adjustments, and system testing using diagnostic tools.
  • Respond to work orders in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime.

Preventative Maintenance

  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance services and inspections in compliance with DOT and company standards.
  • Identify and report worn or damaged components and recommend corrective action.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete detailed maintenance records in the fleet maintenance system, including parts usage and labor time.
  • Ensure repairs and documentation meet regulatory and company requirements.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with other technicians, shop supervisors, and dispatch to support fleet operations.
  • Share knowledge and support less experienced technicians when needed.

Safety & Shop Standards

  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Participate in safety meetings and maintain compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited diesel technician program.
  • A minimum of 1 years of experience with basic maintenance and inspection on Class 8 equipment.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and an in-depth understanding of Class 8 vehicle systems.
  • Must have a toolbox and familiarity with its proper use in a maintenance environment.
  • Foundational knowledge of diesel engine systems and vehicle mechanics.
  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.
  • Basic familiarity with tools and diagnostic equipment.
