Description
The primary responsibility of the Senior Data Scientist is to conduct analyses using statistics, econometric models, machine learning (ML) algorithms, and other tools to discover the underlying demand drivers of various KPIs across the business and to leverage these findings to transform data into actionable recommendations for management that generate incremental EBITDA.
The Senior Data Scientist requires a robust understanding of statistics, probability, and economic theory; applying this knowledge to assess the analytical needs of an array of projects, across differing business departments such as but not limited to Revenue Management, Casino, Hotel Operations, Marketing, and F&B. The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for assessing a given project and selecting the appropriate methodologies from a suite of Data Science techniques such as linear & logistic regressions, A/B test design, artificial intelligence, ML training and forecasting (e.g., SARIMAX, XGBoost, ANN, Bayesian), supervised and unsupervised ML, and natural language processing.
Finally, the Senior Data Scientist mentors and trains junior data scientists on the best practices toward model optimization, data wrangling and cleansing, the interpretation of results, and formulating actionable recommendations to share with the management.
Strong background in time series forecasting techniques (ARIMA, Prophet, etc.) and working with complex, high-volume datasets.
• Proficiency in building, deploying, and tuning machine learning models (e.g., Random Forest, XGBoost, etc.) and deep learning models (e.g., CNN, RNN, LSTMs, Transformers) for structured and unstructured data.
• Expertise in exploratory data analysis (EDA), feature engineering, and statistical modeling to extract actionable insights. Proficient with SQL for querying databases is also important.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), specifically using GCP tools such as BigQuery, BQML , Vertex AI, and Cloud Functions for data storage, processing, and model development.
• Strong proficiency in Python and machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, XGBoost).
• Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g.Matplotlib, Seaborn) to communicate complex insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to present complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience in developing and deploying models using MLOps for monitoring and maintenance (using tools like Kubeflow, TensorFlow Serving, or MLflow).
From JD:
o Develop, test, and implement Data Science projects from initial conception to implementation using python.
o Utilize advanced statistical and econometric techniques to uncover insights that guide leadership’s strategic decisions.
o Discover new optimization opportunities that yield incremental EBITDA
o Present complex analyses and concepts in intuitive ways to non-technical team members across all levels of the company using PowerPoint, BI dashboards, and reports
o Responsible for identifying data-driven insights through ad-hoc analyses, applied models, presentations, and automated reports and dashboards (e.g., Tableau, SSRS, Cognos, Excel, etc.)
o Develop, compare, and select optimal forecasting models using varying techniques such as, but not limited to: SARIMAX, XGBoost, Neural Nets, probabilistic models, etc.
o Recognize when to utilize econometric models such as linear and logistic regression analysis.
Run corresponding validation tests and interpret resulting coefficients’ statistical significance and relationship with the dependent variable
Rigorously test results and hypotheses
Apply appropriate data integrity tests and corrections (e.g., endogeneity, heteroskedasticity, autocorrelation, etc.)
Deliver recommendations to management based on the models’ results
Develop methodologies to measure the impact of when recommendations are implemented
o Create and present insights through BI dashboards and reports based on applied models, or tables and views developed in SSRS, GCP, Excel, or other data environments
o Mentor and train junior data scientists on best practices on model optimization techniques, data integrity tests and corrections, and selecting best model for analysis, and appropriate interpretation of the results
o Instinctive ability to discover the underlying rationality for various requests (e.g.: provide reporting and analysis that adds value and insights beyond the original request)
o Develop subject matter expertise within business departments operations and inherent data structures
o Proactively research and evaluate emerging models, algorithms, and AI techniques—including cutting-edge methods in machine learning, NLP, and generative AI—and incorporate them into projects when appropriate to maximize analytical impact and business value
o Leverage GCP and Databricks platforms for scalable data processing, model deployment, and collaborative development when applicable
