Job Duties
Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution located outside the Tri-Cities region, featuring over 750 acres of wetlands, forests, and the state's oldest pecan grove.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our Finance team. The Accountant will support the College’s mission by ensuring accurate, compliant financial operations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Support financial operations using accounting, auditing principles, and business practices.
- Analyze financial data and perform tasks of routine to moderate complexity, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Research, investigate, reconcile, and evaluate financial information.
- Communicate financial concepts, policies, and procedures clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Manage tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Process and interpret financial transactions using mathematical skills.
- Adhere to GAAP, accounting principles, and budgeting practices.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills for financial reporting and analysis.
- Handle multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- Perform reconciliations for appropriations, expenditures, revenues, cash, fixed assets, bank accounts, and subsidiary ledgers.
- Prepare month-end schedules and resolve reconciling items.
- Support financial reporting processes and management reporting.
- Ensure compliance with CAPP Manual, GAAP, GASB, policies, and regulations.
- Serve as backup to the Senior Accountant for fixed asset records.
- Collaborate on fixed asset acquisition and disposal.
- Assist with annual inventory and documentation.
- Review departmental budget submissions for accuracy.
- Support budget reporting and transactions within the Performance Budgeting System.
- Conduct account analysis and prepare journal entries with professional judgment.
- Organize journal entries and supporting documents across systems.
- Maintain accurate financial records and proper transaction recording.
- Contribute to developing and improving accounting policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely processing of journal entries.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in general accounting
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with reconciliations, budgeting, reporting, and auditing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of accounting principles, business practices, and relevant computer systems
Additional Considerations
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required
