Staff Accountant

Position Summary

Our client, a well-known company with deep roots in the Portland market, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a candidate that is looking for growth, development and advancement in a fast-paced and engaging operation.

The Staff Accountant provides support across a wide range of general ledger and reporting activities. This role requires an intermediate understanding of accounting principles to complete balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close responsibilities. The Staff Accountant will also assist in the management of fixed assets. While subject to some supervision, the position also requires independent problem-solving, critical thinking, and initiative.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations using best-practice templates and techniques to ensure accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Complete month-end close responsibilities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls, streamline workflows, and enhance efficiency.
  • Provide administrative support to internal customers related to the organization’s accounting/ERP systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles relevant to assigned accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; communicate effectively with management across the organization.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in assigned areas, providing clear explanations and training when needed.
  • Manage workload to meet deadlines while proactively communicating challenges to management.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to cross-functional teams.
  • Assist with special projects and external audits as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of related accounting experience.
  • Experience in medium to large organizations with established best practices preferred.
  • Prior experience with fixed assets is HIGHLY preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to see the big picture and understand business impacts.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Sound judgment, adaptability, and ability to manage shifting priorities.
