Overview
The Electrician is a skilled professional who understands the operations and mechanisms of industrial plant equipment. This role is responsible for routine scheduled maintenance and repairs, troubleshooting, installs, dismantles, and maintains electrical and mechanical controls and devices on machines, conveyors, and other equipment. This role will be hired under the title of Millwright.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Dismantles, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical and mechanical controls and devices on upsetters, shears, blasters, cranes, conveyors, extrusion presses, PLCs and other related equipment.
- Installs and troubleshoots motors, drivers, starters and IO/circuits.
- Installs and maintains electrical devices, compressed air, and natural gas within the facility.
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment within the facility.
- Applies safe operating procedures during the performance of work.
- Completes written records and maintain logs as required.
- Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Assembles machines, bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures.
- Possesses a strong mechanical aptitude that enables safe operation of a variety of equipment and tools.
- Installs robot and selects program.
- Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit.
- Drills holes for wiring and pulls or pushes wiring through opening.
- Traces out short circuits in wiring.
- Assists in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, and motors.
- Performs minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
- Maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
- Disassembles defective electrical equipment, replaces defective or worn parts, and reassembles equipment.
- Performs non-load bearing, basic welding tasks.
- Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
- Performs other routine duties.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of four (4) years relevant work experience in the field of Electrical Maintenance
Communication Skills
- Ability to effectively report relevant data and job specific information as needed
- Ability to provide detailed descriptions through written and verbal communication of work and machine conditions and status
- Ability to work independently and within a team with supervision as required.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Computer Skills
- Ability to navigate basic technology including but not limited to use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks, and other systems where applicable.
Additional Preferred Skills and Experience
- Must be able to troubleshoot and repair by using test instruments, schematics or ladder logic
- Experience with RS Logix/Allen Bradley PLCs
- Preferred experience with ABB/Motoman/Fanuc controls and robots
- Experience installing and troubleshooting motors, drivers, starters and IO/circuits.
- Thorough working knowledge of lock/out tag/out and arc flash
- Must be familiar with and able to apply the National Electrical Code.
- Must be able to bend conduit with minimal assistance.
- Must be familiar with the use and safe operating requirements of electrical testing devices.
- Ability to interpret and apply written and numerical information from a drawing or blueprint including electrical schematics.
- Weld and apply sound welding principles and safe operating procedures.
- Use a cutting torch applying safe operating procedures.
- Follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Read dials and gauges with a variety of increments.
- Use a level and square.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex machinery.
- Use of measuring instruments (tape, scale, squares etc.).
Physical Demands
- Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts
- Use carts, dollies, cranes and jacks to transport material if needed
- Must be able to regularly lift and or move up to 25 lbs.
- Climbing ladders and stairs to reach work at potential heights of 30 ft or more
- Navigate narrow walkways, confined spaces and overhead mezzanines
- Tolerate potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery
- Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in work spaces
- Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eyewear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards
- Comfortable working in confined work environments

Work Environment
The Maintenance Millwright interacts with historic machinery throughout the facility which often involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. Millwright will encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation throughout the facility which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances. There are areas of paved and unpaved walkways, active shipping lanes and occasionally standing water to be cautious of.
