SUMMARY The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) plays a pivotal role in shaping a thriving, equitable, and mission-aligned workplace at Wilder. Reporting to the CEO and partnering closely with the entire Executive Team, the CHRO leads Human Resources and Compliance functions with a focus on organizational development, organizational alignment, and strategic systems integration. This leader is responsible for continuing to build a cohesive people strategy that centers accountability and inclusion—advancing Wilder’s internal culture in alignment with its commitment to be here for community. The CHRO drives continuous improvement in core HR operations, builds trust across departments, and partners across the organization to foster a consistent, transparent, and values-based employee experience. With oversight of HR and Compliance, the CHRO ensures operational excellence while empowering managers and staff to lead with clarity, compassion, and courage. The CHRO will be a key architect of the systems, leadership, and care required to support “One Wilder” in action. Key Responsibilities
STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCES LEADERSHIP Serve as a thought partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, translating Wilder’s mission and values into an aligned and actionable people strategy. Lead the design and execution of HR strategy that fosters staff well-being and enables strong performance at every level. Continue to build organizational trust in HR by delivering clear priorities, consistent execution, and transparent decision-making. Establish and manage people-centered metrics and evaluation systems to guide strategic decisions and measure cultural health and organizational performance. ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT & CULTURE Champion an intentional and cohesive internal culture, rooted in Wilder’s vision and values. Lead efforts to operationalize “One Wilder” through consistent norms, conflict navigation frameworks, and people-centered systems. Design and deliver professional development, coaching, and learning systems that support leader, manager, and employee learning, growth, advancement, and retention. Facilitate change leadership initiatives that reflect Wilder’s identity and foster a traumainformed, welcoming workplace. PEOPLE OPERATIONS & SYSTEMS INTEGRATION Oversee all people operations, including work culture, employee relations, benefits, performance management, talent management & development, talent acquisition, HRIS, and compliance. Clarify ownership of HR-related systems and processes to eliminate duplicative or informal practices and improve alignment between shared services and program teams. Optimize HR systems and technology platforms to ensure seamless, user-friendly, and mission-aligned service delivery. Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulatory requirements while advancing equity and transparency across all HR and compliance policies and practices. TEAM LEADERSHIP & CAPACITY BUILDING Lead and support a strong, values-aligned HR team with clear roles, mutual accountability, and a shared commitment to service and strategic partnership. Cultivate a culture of clarity, collaboration, and coaching within the HR department. Provide mentoring and guidance to HR staff, investing in their growth and capacity as strategic leaders across the organization. Model visible, approachable leadership across Wilder to build credibility, foster connection, and strengthen trust in the HR function. WORKFORCE PLANNING & TALENT MOBILITY Lead workforce planning and organizational design efforts to ensure roles and skills align with Wilder's strategic goals. Oversee succession planning, internal mobility pathways, and talent reviews to support longterm sustainability and leadership continuity. Guide staff and managers through adaptive challenges by providing strategic counsel, tools, and real-time support. INTERNAL CULTURAL ALIGNMENT Partner across the organization to ensure Wilder’s internal systems reflect and reinforce its commitments to community. Oversee transparent, effective approaches to hiring, compensation, performance improvement, and advancement. Integrate trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices into all aspects of HR work. Co-create spaces and systems that enable trust, collaboration, and accountability. COMPLIANCE OVERSIGHT & RISK MANAGEMENT Provide strategic leadership of Wilder’s compliance function, including direct supervision of the Compliance Director, ensuring alignment with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards in nonprofit, health care, and research settings. Oversee the development and implementation of organization-wide compliance policies and training that are clear, consistent, and values-aligned. Partner with senior leaders and operational teams to identify and mitigate risk, ensuring compliance efforts are integrated with Wilder’s people systems and organizational priorities. Foster a culture of transparency and accountability through accessible reporting structures and responsive compliance support. LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES Emotionally intelligent and tactful, with the ability to hold space for complexity and navigate conflict with clarity and care. Strong grounding in employment law, compliance, and regulatory environments. Deep understanding of trauma-informed and people-centered practices and their application to HR systems. Expertise in performance management, conflict resolution, change management, and workforce development. Track record of leading with cultural curiosity and humility, and advancing internal equity, inclusion, and belonging. Skilled in operational execution and systems thinking, including integration with IT, Finance, and Compliance functions. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field At least 15 years of progressive human resources leadership experience, including as a senior leader in a complex, mission-driven organization, and across multiple sectors. Demonstrated experience leading HR strategy, organizational change, and system-wide policy design. Audit and compliance experience, including system audits and case management. Experience aligning people operations with organizational values, especially in environments rooted in community. Experience leading planning and implementation of human resources information systems and related technology solutions. Proven ability to build and lead cohesive teams, instill accountability, and cultivate cross-functional collaboration. MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES This position reports to the President & CEO.
