Overview

The Graphic Designer works with the Strategic Marketing and Communications team and stakeholders across the college to steward and elevate the brand of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. This position develops a deep understanding of college audiences to generate compelling visual elements that build awareness, inspire choice and foster affinity for the college while aligning with The Ohio State University brand. The designer provides recommendations on how visual channels can support strategic objectives using an audience-centric mindset, design best practices and a multi-channel approach. The role produces and manages print materials, signage, publications, emails, and web pages to ensure a consistent visual identity across channels, and provides photography services and support for video filming and production as needed. The position manages projects from ideation through implementation, coordinating resources and timelines based on project goals. The ability to handle simultaneous priorities while applying design and brand principles across platforms is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage visual communication projects to ensure timely and quality delivery.
  • Ideate, design and implement graphics, print pieces, signage, web pages, emails and publications aligned with marketing strategies.
  • Lead management of the college website, including maintenance, page creation, content auditing, and ensuring resonance with audiences.
  • Design and produce college email communications in a visually compelling format.
  • Support college social media communication; take photography as needed to build the asset library and support events; provide video editing or motion graphics as required.
  • Consult with marketing and communications colleagues on strategic objectives; collaborate with units to identify opportunities for enhancements and create templates; seek and implement feedback regularly.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and university partners; stay informed on trends and participate in professional development; collaborate with university marketing initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in design or visual communication or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a graphic design environment.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience designing email communications and using email platforms (Mailchimp, Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
  • Experience designing for web and creating webpages (preferred: Drupal CMS).
  • Creative and strategic thinking with attention to detail; ability to manage projects from ideation through implementation.
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to balance multiple work streams and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality; professional demeanor and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build collaborative working relationships.

Desired

  • Advanced degree in Graphic Design (desirable).
  • 2-4 years of experience in a professional graphic design role.
  • Basic knowledge of photography or willingness to learn; basic knowledge of videography and motion graphics (Adobe Premiere, After Effects) or willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML design; familiarity with professional printing standards and working with printers.
  • Experience managing social media visuals and platforms.

Additional Information

  • The salary range is $51,500 - $67,250, determined by internal equity, budget, and candidate education/experience.
